A normal MCA course consists of 3 years, whereas a lateral entry course consists of two years. If you join MCA after B.Sc, you must do 3 year MCA course. But, if you join MCA after BCA, then you can join lateral system and completing this in 2 years.

Yes, it is good choice to go us to pursue engineering degree. Yes, you can do it even after BCA, but your marks in intermediate will be considered only for admission purposes. You must score good in intermediate and pass in all the subjects. Best of luck.
