The GATE cutoff changes every year depending on seat intake, number of applicants appeared in exam, toughness of question paper, and previous cutoff trends. Candidates who meet cutoff score can participate for counselling.

Based on the previous year's trends, the GATE 2026 expected cutoff for computer Science and engineering can be checked below- 

  • For General category it might go around 30 to 31.0

However, the GATE cutoff varies every year, depending on the difficulty level, number of applicants appearing for the exam, etc.

The GATE marks is the actual marks obtained by the candidate. It is calculated out of 100. On the other hand, the GATE scores is calculated out of 1000 using a formula of GATE normalisation process. The GATE result will be released on March 19.

Candidates who want to raise an objection against the answer key will have to first login using their credentials, then look for the answer they want to object. Select and provide justifications to the question, pay the fees and submit. It must be noted that only GATE provisional answer key can be challenged.

Candidates can check their GATE 2026 result on the official website. The result will be announced on March 19. Students who have appeared for the exam will be able to check the result. The GATE MTech/research result determines the qualifying status of the applicant for the counselling process.

The IIT Roorkee conducted GATE 2025 exam. The cutoff for GATE EE (last year) can be checked below -

  • cutoff for general category - 25
  • cutoff for OBC-NCL or EWS category - 22.5
  • and cutoff for SC/ST category was 16.6

This year, IIT Guwahati is conducting GATE 2026. Candidates can refer to these cutoff and plan their choice filling.

Pradeep Chauhan was the GATE 2025 topper in the electrical engineering branch, scoring 81.67 marks out of 100. His GATE score was 1000. In GATE 2025, around 83355 candidates registered for the exam, out of which 67701 candidates appeared for the test.

Balamurugan was the GATE 2025 topper in the Aerospace Engineering branch/discipline scoring 81 marks out of 100 (with a GATE score of 990 out of 1000). Last year, 7576 candidates registered for the GATE AE paper, out of which 6009 candidates appeared for the exam.

Important topics to score 60+ marks in GATE CE are as follows -

  • Environmental engineering carry around 10 to 12 marks
  • Geotechnical Engineering carry around 13 marks
  • Fluid mechanics and OCF carry 7 to 8 marks
