The GATE 2026 toppers list will be released after the result, along with qualifying marks. Last year, 21 students secured GATE score of 1000, securing top AIR position in their respective subjects.

Candidates can check toppers list on official website - gate2026.iitg.ac.in under GATE papers section. The topper's list will have the name of candidate, with raw marks and scores.

The scorecard of GATE is valid for 3 years. However, many PSUs often restrict of using old GATE scorecard. Many PSUs accept GATE scorecard of current year or at least one year old result scorecard.

Many new NITs do accept 500 score in GATE for M.Tech admission. Here are some NITs that accept GATE scores between 400 - 500 -

Securing 2500 rank in GATE is considered good. With this rank, you can get admission to new IITs, top NITs and IIITs as well. However, opportunities for PSU jobs can be limited. GATE AIR of 2500 can roughly correspond a GATE score of 670 to 750.
- Possible NITs include - NIT Trichy, NIT Suratkal, NIT Calicut
- New IITs - IIT Bhilai, IIT Patna, IIT Mandi, etc.

Based on previous year's cutoff trends and experts analysis, here is an expected GATE score range required for M.Tech admission -

| 300 to 400 | MTech in any state government college. Also, aspirants can apply for other exams. |
| GATE Score 500 to 600 | The maximum chances of getting into a state government college. Few new NITs options (specific branches or category) |
| 600 to 700 score in GATE | Top NITs (in-demand branches) and few new IITs |
| GATE score 700 to 800 | Top NITs, IITs, and IISc, High chances for PSU recruitment |
| GATE score 800 to 900 | MTech or MSc in Top IITs (core branches), top PSUs recruitment like ISRO, BARC, and DRDO |
| GATE score 900+ | Top IITs, NITs, IISc, and PSU recruitment. Aspirants can also opt for research work. |

The GATE scorecard on 2026 will be valid till 2029. With the help of GATE result scorecard, qualified candidates can apply for M.Tech and PhD at IITs, IISc, NITs, and other engineering colleges in India. With valid GATE scorecard, applicants can also apply for PSU recruitments, such as NTPC, GAIL, AAI, BHEL, etc.

Yes, GATE rank is valid for three years. However, some PSUs might not accept previous year's GATE scorecard. Therefore, it is better to go through guidelines and official notification before applying. If a candidate has more than two GATE scorecard, then they must use the one with best score and rank.
GATE 2026 scorecard will be made available for free download from March 27 to May 31. Later from June 1 to December 31, the scorecard can be downloaded by paying a fee of INR 500. The GATE scorecard 2026 will remain valid till 2029.

After the release of GATE result, candidates must check refer to the college predictor to check their chances of which college they can get with their scores. This will give a brief idea to list out college and institute options and stay prepared before the counselling process start.
It must be noted that, IIT Guwahati will not conduct counselling. The process will be done in two portals - COAP for IITs admission and CCMT for NITS, IIITs, and GFTIs.
