The respective IIT conducting authority usually take 25 to 30 days to release GATE exam results. First, the authorities will announce the result, where candidates can login and check their qualifying status.
In previous years, the authorities used to announce final answer key, result, AIR and qualifying mark on different dates.
Then after a few days, the authorities will publish qualifying GATE cutoff marks for all 30 subjects along with respective branch AIR. After that, within three to four days, GATE scorecard will be available for download at GOAPS login.

The GATE 2026 cutoff varies every year. The organising institute (IIT Guwahati) determines cutoff based on certain factors - number of registered candidates, question paper difficulty, normalisation process, seat intake, etc.
- If the GATE question paper is tough, then the cutoff is likely to be low.
- On the other hand, if the GATE question paper is easy, then the cutoff may get high.

No, candidates who are applying through their GATE score are not required to appear for the Written Test conducted by IIIT Bhubaneshwar for M.Tech admissions. This Written Test is only meant for candidates who did not apply through a valid GATE score. Other candidates will be moved directly to the PI round during M.Tech admissions.

The GATE 2026 Answer Key Challenge was open from Feb 25 to 28. Provisional applicants were not able to challenge answer key, however, they were able to view their responses.

A GATE score of 700 to 800 is mainly required for M.Tech admission at IIT (especially for top IITs). However, the score also depends on the IIT popularity, branch popularity, and other factors. For new IITs, a GATE score of 500 to 600 is mainly required.
It is advised to check the past year's GATE cutoff trends before opting for counselling and admission.

Scoring 700 marks in GATE is considered great. It can roughly estimate around 60 to 70 marks in GATE out of 100. With 700 marks, students have high chances to get admission to IITs, NITs, and for PSUs even.
