No, it is not easy to get admission at IIT Guwahati as the institute conducts its admission process through accepted entrance exams conducted by various authorities. Some of the popular entrance exams accepted by the institute are JEE Main, CAT, GATE, CEED, NET, JEE Advanced, etc. Candidates must appear for the respective entrance exam and qualify for its cutoff.

The BTech scholarships at IIT Guwahati have different eligibility criteria. Some of them are merit based scholarships where, the candidates are offered BTech scholarships due totheir high score in either the JEE Advanced exam or their last qualifying exam. Candidates who belong to the SC/ST groups are also awarded scholarships if they can prove that they belong tosuch categories.

For the OBC categor candidates, the JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff for IIT Guwahati ranged from 383 to 3493 under the AI quota. So, to get a seat in the first round, candidates must target a maximum cutoff rank of up to 3493 for BTech admission. For the SC category students under the AI quota, the JEE Advanced Round 1 cutoff 2026 ranged from 1191 to 1948, including BTech core branches, such as Civil, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering. Considering the first round cutoff, candidates are advised to target a lower cutoff than the one mentioned here to get admission to BTech core branches at IIT Guwahati. Check out the last three years' cutoff trends for all three BTech branches for Round 1.

IIT Guwahati BTech cutoff 2026 ranged from 810 to 10525 for the students belonging to the General category AI quota. Similarly, for the EWS category, the Round 1 closing ranks varied between 120 and 1596 under the AI quota. IIT Guwahati JEE Advanced cutoff 2026 was released for admission to the BTech courses for the first round. The round 1 cutoff ranged from 810 to 10525 for the General AI category. Students can see the table below to know the courses for all courses.

If you belong to the General AI quota, the UCEED target rank should be below 90 to secure a seat at IIT Guwahati. In 2025, the Round 3 closing rank was 90 for B.Des admission. Please note that the cutoff ranks vary for different rounds, years, and categories. For the OBC category students, the cutoff rank was 50, so candidates must aim to secure a rank lower than 50 to improve their chances of getting admission to this institute.

IIT Guwahati offers admission to various UG and PG course specialisations based on different national-level exams. For instance, BTech admission is based on JEE Advanced ranks. For BDes admission, UCEED ranks are considered. For MSc admission, the institute considers IIT JAM scores. The cutoff for these exams is released based on categories.
