All India Council Of Technical Education also known as AICTE and University grant commission (UGC) are two main bodies which recognise and affiliate institutions in the country. If talking about engineering Colleges then AICTE affiliation is must. But, not in case of Universities. For recognition of universities, University grants commission come into play. An University may be AICTE national board of accreditation (NBA) is another body initially setup by All India council of Technical education under section 10 (u) of AICTE act in 1996. Candidates must have passed class XII from a recognised state or central board. They need to secure minimum aggregate marks of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths in class XII. Those appearing in Class XII or equivalent in 2017 will be eligible to apply for GITAM GAT 2017. Basically, these seats are a bet and the highest bidder gets the seat. This basically happens in private engineering colleges because government ones are filing their seats by well-governed exams like JEE and other state examinations. And you should know these seats are for the students that failed to meet the required criteria or were unable to qualify the entrance exam. So, talking of the prestigious colleges through is a little bit hard because if a college is prestigious it won't have such quota and all students in the engineering college would be well screened.
