The House Rent Allowance (HRA) in SSC CGL is a component of the salary that varies based on the city of posting. It is calculated as a percentage of the basic pay and ranges from 24% for X cities (most populated cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Pune) to 8% for Z cities (rural areas with a population of fewer than 5 lakhs). The HRA rates are as follows:

  • X Cities: 24% of basic pay
  • Y Cities: 16% of basic pay
  • Z Cities: 8% of basic pay

These percentages are applied to the basic pay to determine the HRA amount for employees in different cities
