The University of Melbourne is a well-ranked university with a great reputation. And yes, as per Shiksha Popularity Rankings 2026, UMel is ranked #1 in Australia and the same is the case with the QS Rankings.
Globally, this university does not rank in the top 10 but among the top 25 in the world. The University of Melbourne QS ranking is #22 in the year 2027.

The 48% rule at the University of Melbourne is the primary policy used by the Melbourne Law School for its Juris Doctor program.
This rule allows students who failed a compulsory subject (with final marks of 48% or 49%) to be granted an additional assessment to pass that subject.
Look at the guidelines given below -
- A candidate should receive a final score of 48% or 49%
- The pass grade is 50% (capped)

Yes, STEM and Business programs are way more crowded and competitive than Humanities at the University of Melbourne.

Both universities see neck to neck when it comes to the US News and World rankings.
For the year 2025, the University of Sydney took over Melbourne. Being two of the best in Australia, there is no absolute answer to this question.
Indian students need to choose one using other factors like fees, acceptance rate and curriculum.

Both universities are neck and neck when it comes to rankings.
As per the US News, both universities are giving each other very tough competition. But, in 2025, the University of Sydney took a better spot.
