SRM University AP Inaugurates India’s First Quantum Reference Facility

SRM University-AP, Amaravati housed India’s first and only Quantum Reference Facility (QRF) on the university campus, partnering with the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. This landmark initiative served as the source of a larger ecosystem to nurture talent, advance emerging technologies, and support the state’s vision for a vibrant Quantum Valley.

SRM University-AP, Amaravati is all set to house India’s first and only Quantum Reference Facility (QRF) on the university campus, partnering with the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. This landmark initiative served as the source of a larger ecosystem to nurture talent, advance emerging technologies, and support the state’s vision for a vibrant Quantum Valley.

Commemorating World Quantum Day by, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu inaugurated the facility in the august presence of government officials including, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, GoI, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Andhra Pradesh State Quantum Mission, Shri CV Sridhar, Hon'ble Minister of Tourism, Culture and Cinematography, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Kandula Durgesh, Mission Director,  Director of Collegiate Education, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Narayana Bharath Gupta, IAS, Hon'ble Chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE),  Prof. (Dr) Kotha Madhu Murthy.

Other distinguished guests included Scientist, DRDO, DYSL, Dr Santu Sardar and Director General, NHTL, DRDO, Directors and Scientists from IIT Tirupati, IIT Madras, TIFR  and Founders of Dimira, Qubitec, Qbit Force, Qute Electronics and academic leadership, Pro-Chancellor, SRM Group, Dr P Sathyanarayanan and Vice-Chancellor of SRM University-AP, Prof. Ch Satish Kumar.

We are proud to inaugurate the Quantum Reference Facility at SRM University-AP, Amaravati, assembled by our students, reflecting our strong emphasis on hands-on learning and innovation. The Quantum Facility will not merely be a standalone unit, as we are committed towards building a comprehensive ecosystem around it,” said Prof. Ch Satish Kumar.

He added, " We aim to democratise access to quantum hardware while advancing indigenous capability, and will play a pivotal role in workforce development, offering hands-on training in quantum hardware.”

This ambitious initiative has been realised in under eight months from conceptualisation to commissioning, and the facility is a fully instrumented hardware testbed enabling real-time validation, benchmarking, and certification of quantum technologies under operational conditions, and can test up to 100 Qubit quantum processes.

The facility is being developed in partnership with Amaravati Quantum Research Facility and Qubit Force, forming part of a broader dual-system architecture, Amaravati 1S and Amaravati 1Q.

Major applications of the Quantum Reference facility include Drug Discovery, Healthcare, Cryptography, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Optimisation Problems, Quantum Radar and Sensing, among others.

With the launch of the first and only Quantum Reference Facility at Universities, SRM AP emerges as a cornerstone of Amaravati Quantum Valley, positioning Andhra Pradesh among the world’s leading quantum hubs. This initiative lays the foundation for a distributed national quantum infrastructure, with the potential to scale into a network of similar facilities across the country.

The application fee for SRM University, Andhra Pradesh depends on the program. For Engineering and Technology programs (B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D.), the fee is INR 1,400. For all other UG and PG programs (such as BBA, B.Sc., and M.Sc.), the fee is INR 1,200. Both fees are non-refundable.
