No, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is not required for admission to Diploma courses in foreign languages at Delhi University (DU). Although CUET is compulsory for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at DU, the Diploma courses in foreign languages operate a separate admission procedure. Students of these courses usually come under the purview of a particular department or centre, for instance, the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies or the Department of East Asian Studies. Admissions for most foreign language Diploma courses are on merit or departmental entrance exams. The applicants may be required to have done a certificate course in the same language or an equivalent qualification. The specific eligibility requirements and admission processes may differ according to the language and level of the Diploma course. Note that admission to these programs is outside of the CUET centralized system. Departments conducting these programs tend to issue elaborate admission notices, such as the process of applying, eligibility, and deadlines. Prospective applicants should keep themselves updated with such departmental announcements in order to acquire correct and timely information. In short, CUET is not required for admission to a Diploma in a foreign language at DU. Rather, the admissions are done separately by individual departments, frequently on merit or individual entrance tests. This ensures that students who have a background in the language do not require CUET to proceed with their studies.
