HPU MSc Eligibility & Highlights 2025

Himachal Pradesh University MSc programme is offered across six specialisations for a duration of two years. The varsity also offers several MSc Nursing specialisations for a course duration of two years only. A total of 60% of seats in MSc (Nursing) programme are reserved for in-service candidates of Himachal Pradesh while the remaining 40% seats are filled through open competition.

HPU admission to MSc programme differs in accordance with its specialisations:

Admissions to MSc Botany, MSc Zoology and MSc Physics are strictly based on the score obtained in the entrance test conducted by the University. The minimum qualifying aggregate for the entrance test is 35%
For MSc Biotechnology, admission is done on a valid score in the All India Entrance Test, conducted by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India
For admission to MSc Nursing specialisations, the varsity conducts a two-hour entrance test with 150 MCQs of one mark each. Candidates have to secure at least 50% (40% for reserved categories) in the entrance test to appear for the University-conducted counselling round based on which seats are allotted to the shortlisted candidates

Everything is good, but there is a placement issue, as only 3-5% of placements are given.

Placements: Only 3-4% of students get placed in a pharma company. The average salary package offered in my course ranges from 3-4 LPA. The top recruiting company for our course is Kinvan Pharmaceuticals. Students got internships from CRI Kasauli, Solan. The top roles offered in my course are QA and QC in microbiology.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure and facilities are excellent in our department. It has Wi-Fi on our campus. AC or room theaters are available in our classrooms. Labs are well-settled with instruments. The quality of food in our hostel is very good, tasty and delicious. The medical facilities are good. It also has good facilities in the mess and canteen.

Faculty: Teachers in our department are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. They have very gentle and good behavior. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. Semester exams at our university are not very tough. The pass percentage of students is 95 %.

Satisfying from everything but only dissatisfied with placement; there should be placement.

Placements: Himachal Pradesh University does not provide any placements for the students, but I really hope this thing should change in the future. There should be placements in Himachal Pradesh University. After graduation or post-graduation, students should get placement. For this, there must be placements in the university.

Infrastructure: They provide 24/7 Wi-Fi in the hostels as well as classrooms, laboratories. Himachal Pradesh University library is really big and quiet for studying. The food here is also great, and we always get food on time. Medical facilities are also very good, there are also grounds for playing sports and games.

Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. I am doing my Master's in Chemistry, so we spend maximum time in labs. But yes, our teachers provide theory classes as well. Semester exams are not that difficult because in the exam only the answers are given, which are made by the teacher. Only the questions are asked in such a way that students get a little confused.

Other: I had chosen Science in 12th class. I started finding Chemistry a bit interesting from 12th class onwards. After that, I decided that I would do both my Bachelors and Masters in Chemistry. The best thing about my course is the labs; I love doing lab practicals. If there is something that needs improvement in my course, then it is practical work. According to me, there should be theoretical work in Chemistry, but practical work also needs to be done. Fests keep happening in the university.

Placements: Around 10-20% of students got their dream jobs. Some students were well-settled and a few of them manage their family businesses. Students got a salary of Rs.40,000 to Rs.50,000 per month by freelancing in the companies.

Infrastructure: Facilities of our college were very good. Classrooms were well-maintained. Library was very good and all the books were well maintained. Classrooms had projectors for students to give their seminars.

Faculty: Teachers in our college were helpful, supportive, and well-qualified. Semester exams were not tough but were challenging for some students who didn't study. They guided students to their best.

Faculty: Our teachers are well-educated. They have good knowledge. The teaching quality is good. They are always ready to help students. Semester exams are not much difficult. Around 80-90% of students pass the exam easily.

Placements: About 33% of students got placed in our college. Companies won't visit our college for internships. Students have not got internships.

Infrastructure: Our college has Wi-Fi. It is not useful because its speed is 26 Mbps per student. It does not cover the whole department area in our college. Practical labs are average. Classrooms are not good. The library is good. We can study in the library very well.

Faculty: Teachers are qualified, but we are not satisfied with them. They have good knowledge, but the teaching quality is not good. The course does not make students industry-ready. Semester exams are not good. The pass percentage is not good.

Other: Our college fee is Rs. 2,00,000. I would not recommend choosing this college for M.Sc. It is not the best college. They provide 50% of internal assessments after attending 97% of classes. Our college does not provide scholarships.

The teaching staff is very good and supportive, and always helps their students with their work.

Placements: There was no such placement by the university. This is where the university lag behind itself but the teaching faculty is very good. There are many other departments as well and many courses are available, students may opt for other courses as well, and universities may offer internships.

Infrastructure: The hostel facility is good and the course fee is very reliable. Students from middle-class families may choose this university. The food is good, food and other eatable things are available in the campus canteen and the foods are very reliable and cheap.

Faculty: The curriculum and the syllabus are good and easy to study. Field work also they conduct, exams are easy if the students will also study then the exam is very good for the students. Teaching quality is first class. I will recommend others to go for the courses here at this university.
