Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) - Batch of 2026
Offered by Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT)

A good option for B.Tech mechanical engineers with the help of IMEC we can get a job easily.
Placements: I am studying Graduate Marine Engineering (1-year course after completing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering). After completing mechanical engineering, the best option is to enter the merchant navy career. The placement is excellent compared to other marine institutes. For GME there are batches fully sponsored by IMEC companies. So before joining the college we have a job in our hands.
Infrastructure: In our college, the lab facilities are very good where we can see all the machinery and we can learn things easily. Classrooms are fully air-conditioned. The hostel facility and food are also very nice. All kinds of sports activities, a good gym, and a swimming pool are also available.
Faculty: Faculty are very experienced. They are chief engineers, and second engineers. We can learn a lot from them. They also share their experience. We can easily know what we are going to do on board and we can prepare accordingly. There are two semesters for GME followed by 6 months of training on board.

It is an excellent college with great facilities and infrastructure.
Placements: 80% are placed in my course. The highest package offered is $750, the lowest package is $350, and the average package is $500. Top recruiting companies are Zodiac, MOL, Vridhi, Ozellar, and Genco. Captain is the top role offered in my course. 80% of students got internships from my college.
Infrastructure: AC classrooms, cricket turf, football turf, V.R room, seamanship lab, MEK lab, AMW lab, ship on campus, library, hostel rooms with attached bathroom, canteen are available. A room with an attached bathroom, dispensary, and ambulance facility is available. Galley food is nutritious and overall good.
Faculty: Captain, chief officer, chief engineer and other level experienced officers teach and share their knowledge with us. They are helping and very supportive. College rules and regulations shape us by making time punctual and following the instructions given, and time-to-time fire drills and regular muster are being conducted. The level of examination is moderate.
Other: I chose it because it was a childhood dream to join the merchant Navy. Ganapati puja, Diwali, Holi, Onam, and all other festivals are celebrated.

B.Tech. in Marine Engineering - Batch of 2026
Offered by Coimbatore Marine College
3.2

The mess food and accommodation totally disappointed us.
Placements: Probably 50 percent of cadets got placed. But the rest of students did not get placed. The college provides only 100 percent placement assistance. I suggest students do not believe blindly in the receptionist, as they are doing a scam. They should check twice. Only 3-5 companies attend the college for placements.
Infrastructure: The hostel has the worst infrastructure. Classrooms are not high-tech. Wi-Fi is not available. Food is good, but it does not provide variety. Sometimes, it might be the worst. The swimming pool facilities are too bad. A physical instructor is the worst. A bad sewage water plant is fitted in the college. Engine room facilities are provided for cadets. The atmosphere of the college is good.
Faculty: Staff and faculty members are good. Education-wise, it is good. Semester exams are tough to clear. Faculty members won't help with the semester exams. The pass percentage is above 70 percent.

Excellent infrastructure, smart classrooms, VR labs, clean hostels, good food, and great faculty.
Placements: 80% of the students got placed in our course. The highest package is 750 USD, the lowest package is 350 USD, and the average package is 500 USD. Molmi, Molta, Zodiac, Synergy, and Vridhi are the top recruiting companies for our course. 80% of the students get internships in the above-mentioned companies. The top roles offered by this course are Captain/Master of a Merchant ship.
Infrastructure: Air-conditioned smart classroom, VR lab, ship in campus ( SIC), Seamanship lab, library, MEK lab are available in the college. Hostel rooms are very tidy, along with attached bathrooms, and the quality of the mess food is above average, provided with a dispensary, canteen, and sports arena ( football turf, basketball court, pickleball court, volleyball court, cricket ground).
Faculty: Teachers are really helpful when it comes to academics and other things, also, they're well qualified in the marine field. Teaching quality is amazing. Semester examination difficulty is moderate, and the examination is conducted by IMU ( Indian Maritime University). The pass percentage for examination is 50%.
Other: I chose this course because I was inspired by a friend of a relative. Best thing about this course is that everything you learn is new. More practical classes and more VR ( virtual reality) labs could do more in learning and teaching rather than theoretical classes. They celebrate every cultural festival and conduct college events to promote curricular activities, participate in inter-college festivals (e.g., Navagati, Nautica ), and the campus surroundings are pretty environmentally friendly.

Placements: 80% of students are placed in my course. The highest package is $750, the lowest is $350, and the average is $500. The top recruiting companies are Molmi, Molta, Genco, Vridhi, and Ozellar. 80% students got internships from my course in Molmi, Molta, Genco, Ozellar, and Vridhi. The captain's role is offered.
Infrastructure: Turf, basketball court, cricket court, volleyball court, gym, and indoor sports games are available in the college. Wi-Fi, VR labs, a ship on campus, AC classrooms, and a library are provided. Good rooms with attached bathrooms, fans, etc., are provided. Overall, food quality is good. 24/7 medical support is available. Excellent facilities for both indoor and outdoor games are provided.

The course curriculum is relevant and provides a good foundation in the maritime industry. Difficulties in the exam are moderate, and the pass percentage is 50%.

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) - Batch of 2026
Offered by Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT)
3.4
4.0Placements3.0Infrastructure4.0Faculty2.0Crowd & Campus Life4.0Value for Money
The college provides a disciplined environment with limited exposure to outside life.
Placements: For the Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) course, students require sponsorship from a shipping company before enrollment. I was sponsored by Synergy Maritime for the role of deck cadet. HIMT College mainly provides training for sponsored cadets. It does not play a direct role in placements for DNS cadets. The course fee is around 5 LPA for the one-year DNS course. Other companies like Zodiac Maritime, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Seaspan Corporation, and GENCO recruit B.Sc. cadets. Placement details for other courses are as follows. B.Sc Nautical Science has around 75% placement. B.Tech Marine Engineering has around 90% placement. GP Rating has around 0–5% placement. ETO – placement is uncertain and luck-based. GME has around 80% placement
Infrastructure: HIMT has a modern but small campus. It has five hostel buildings, out of which four are old and badly maintained, while one is well maintained. Wi-Fi is not available. Classrooms have smart boards and air conditioning. The library is very bad, with no air conditioning and inadequate seating. Food quality is decent. Along with South Indian cuisine dominating the menu. Sports facilities are decent, and medical facilities are limited.
Faculty: Teachers are decent and have good practical knowledge and teaching skills. HIMT invites visiting faculty members with years of sea experience to familiarize students with life at sea. Smart boards are used for interactive teaching. Teachers are strict and focus strongly on discipline. The course curriculum is highly relevant and follows IMU guidelines strictly, which helps make students industry-ready. Exams are fairly easy, with almost a 100% passing percentage in DNS.
Other: The DNS course is one of the fastest and easiest ways to become a merchant navy officer. Campus life is limited, and fests are almost non-existent. Most events are competition-based rather than talent-oriented. The campus surroundings are decent with good natural scenery, but the college is far from the main city. Extracurricular activities are very limited.

No if you did not score a minimum of 60% in PCM in your 12th grade examination you are generally not eligible for admission to the Indian Maritime University for the Marine engineering course even if you clear your compartment exam in the same year
