B.Tech. in Marine Engineering - Batch of 2027
Offered by Tolani Maritime Institute- TMI

I'll rate Tmi as 10/10 because of its placements, best facilities, and experienced faculty.
Placements: I'm currently in my 2nd year. I got placed in the 1st year only within the 1st semester. The placements here are top-notch in very reputed companies like Chevron, Torm, Stena, and BW. No concern about placements if you don't have any backlog, you can get placed easily.
Infrastructure: Free unlimited Wi-Fi is provided both in classrooms and hostels and in the library. Food quality is excellent and better than that of any other college. A sickbay (medical facilities) is also on the campus with a certified doctor. TMI is known for its events and sports. Every sport like football, cricket, basketball, squash, lawn tennis, table tennis, and various athletic events, is organized.
Faculty: All the faculty members here are highly qualified and have great experience and knowledge, and the quality of teaching is excellent. It makes the students ready for the industry. Semester exams are moderate, depending on your preparation. 50% is the pass criteria.
Other: I chose this course because marine engineering is the best technical degree in which we can work onboard with machines. This course offers a great package too. But the fee for this course is a bit high, and that's the only drawback. The events in TMI are of the next level, they spend a lot on events and fests, and the campus is very neat and clean. Scholarships are also given to the students who performed well in academics.

Review of Tolani Maritime Institute- TMI.
Placements: About 98% of students from the current 2024 batch have been placed in top shipping companies such as M.Sc. Wallem Seapeak, etc., with a lot of them having scored an on-board internship of 6 months. Students who did not get an onboard internship will be completing their internship in PVD before they can board their respective ships and start their careers as fourth engineers. The nautical science batch saw a 100% placement rate as of right now.
Infrastructure: TMI has provided ethernet connectivity services in each room providing high-speed Wi-Fi, but it does not work sometimes and is switched off after 11 PM every day. The academic block has a workshop that has machines for educational purposes such as late machines, milling machines, shape, etc. It has several labs such as electrical and electronics labs, marine machinery labs, a thermal engineering lab, etc. The campus also has two drawing halls for engineering drawing courses two academic blocks and one block consisting of simulation rooms. The campus has a library which has a wide range of books.
Faculty: Faculty members mostly consist of retired chief engineers and captains. They provide good quality teaching. A lot of professors are PhD holders or have achieved some sort of recognition in their respective fields. The course curriculum is mostly relevant to the current demands of the shipping industry and is set by the Indian Maritime University. Semester exams are relatively on the tougher side but can be easily cleared if attention is paid in class and if studies are done regularly.
Other: I selected this course because I wanted to join the Merchant Navy as an engineering officer. The best thing about this course is that it derives its roots from mechanical engineering so we also have touch with the mechanical field. There are several fests which are conducted in this college including Horizons which is the main event and Transtech which is a technical fest conducted every year.

Review with actual truth and information.
Placements: Around 90% of students from final year got placed. Package differs from company to company but as an engine cadet, the range of package varies from 500-600 dollars per month. Top recruiting companies are Feet Management, Pacific Basis, OSM Home, MMSI, BW Shipping, MSI, and M.Sc Anglo Eastern. For internship, students are asked to look on their own in any workshop but through college, it can be referred as onboard training after a course for 6 months.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi availability is provided but the range varies. Labs are under maintenance. Classrooms are good with smart projectors, boards, and hygiene. But many of the classes do not have air conditioning. Library is good with AC and sitting arrangement. Quality of food in mess is good but the taste is not counted. Canteen is also provided. Sports facility is also good. Water shortage is there which may be addressed soon. Hostels for pre-sea cadets are under renovation as soon as they get ready students will be shifted there because currently, pre-sea cadets are staying in hostel for post-sea courses. Hostel of pre-sea cadets is provided with common washrooms on each floor. Around the campus ships undergo bunkering and de bunkering due to which air quality is not that much good. It is ragging free campus.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Teaching quality is good. Course curriculum is good but practical section should be more focused. Semester exams are same which are taught in class as per the syllabus. If students are prepared they can easily score good marks in exams that's why placement rate is good. Passing percentage is 35%.
Other: Annual events are Prayan - cultural cum technical fest, Udghosh - sports event, and annual magazines - propelling minds and Prakriti and Sea Scape. There are 6 clubs and 4 houses and it is an institute with good alma mater.

Cadets' review of B.Tech at Tolani Maritime Institute.
Placements: This year, 98% of students got placed. A few don't get placement because they have backlogs. To get placement in TMI, the simple criterion is that cadets should clear all their backlogs. Few companies are BP, Wallem, Fleet, Synergy, Carnival Cruise, WSM, and many more.
Infrastructure: There is unlimited Wi-Fi in the classroom and library areas. In the hostel, we get Ethernet support from 5 PM to 11 PM on weekdays, and on weekends, we get Ethernet from 1 PM to 11 PM. The food facilities are excellent, and even the faculty and staff come to the hostel mess to have their lunch. There are various sports facilities in TMI, like track and field, a basketball court, a badminton court, a swimming pool, a football/cricket ground, cricket nets, and many more.
Faculty: Faculty members are very helpful, and they are well-qualified. Many of them are ex-Navy officers as well as merchant Navy mariners. They share their experiences with students so that we can relate to things properly. The semester exams are conducted by IMU only.
Other: B.Tech in Marine Engineering offers the opportunity to become a Chief Engineer in the shipping line after years of hard work and experience. We don't get as many holidays as other colleges, as it's a residential course and a marine-related course. Every semester, events are conducted, likeFreshers' Party, Horizons, Transtech, and many more.

Review of Indian Maritime University, Chennai- Mumbai Campus MERI.
Placements: The college has 100% placements. Every cadet who graduates from here gets a job in his hand with a good income. I got placement in my 6th semester. My batch strength is 40 and 20 are placed already. Some companies are already in line to select the cadets. In February, we are expecting Feet Management Ltd. Company to visit the college. We have an average offer of 600 dollars with no tax cutting.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are provided with smartboards, projectors, and good ventilation.
Faculty: This course is a package of every field from management studies to law studies, and even anyone can become a code if they love it. The course is divided into 8 semesters. 1st year is all about the 12 revisions and basic knowledge of mechanical engineering, stress, train, ending, etc. 2nd year is about the learning main engine and auxiliary machines along with the fluid dynamics studies, thermodynamics, and marine pollution annexures. 3rd year is about learning ship design and building with naval architecture, machine design, and CFD. The final year is all about arrangements of machines. The college has a good teaching staff members. They are the retired merchant Navy officers who are here to train new cadets. We have s technical superintendent who has 15 or more years of experience in shipping and through his studies, students learn a lot. We have some PhD holders who have no knowledge about shipping but they also try their best to learn themselves and also teach the cadets. The course includes the main engine studies of ships.
Other: The college view is beautiful. This is my final year but being with my friends the time is spent well. We have many clubs like a technical club, literary club, robotics club, disaster management club, etc. The cadets are free to choose their club of interest. The college provides good sports equipment. We have a ground near the college. The only drawback is we are socially not in contact with the outside world. We have a college fest Prayaan coming in the month of April.

Tolani Maritime Institute: What All You Need to Know About!
Placements: The eligibility criteria is to have zero back, but students can still get placed with a backlog, provided they clear it within the course duration. Many top-rated shipping companies like Wallem, Chevron, EPS, British Petroleum, etc. have visited the college to recruit from my batch, each taking on an average of 4 students each. The highest package for internship is around 10 Lacs, which can go up to 24 Lacs per annum after the first promotions. On average, a cadet is placed with a package of 7 Lacs. For my course, up to 96 percent of students get placed in on-campus recruitment. Top roles are engine cadets, deck cadets, or ETO on placement.
Infrastructure: In TMI, each year there is a sports meet that involves activities like cross-country, march-past, mass demonstration, football, basketball, squash, and other racket games. These are conducted in both semesters each year. We also have a cultural event named Horizons, which is conducted in the second semester of each year. It involves dance competitions, singing competitions, and other various competitions, along with a DJ night. The activities take place as a competition between houses. The library of our college is moderately equipped with both old and new books. The classroom is subpar, with a projector, blackboard, and wooden benches. The college offers over 30 sports facilities and 25+ club activities. There is an Academic Assistance Club meant to help students with academics and placements, run by the students themselves.
Faculty: The faculty in TMI are highly educated and experienced. Most of the faculty members are Ph.D. holders, and many are from the marine field (Captains, Chief Engineers, and other crew). Their teaching method is excellent, and we are able to finish most of our studies in college itself. The exams are held every 2 months on average with a moderate difficulty level. Though the exams are of moderate difficulty, 30 percent of cadets fail in at least one subject due to poor checking. Yes, the course is relevant to the industry; it teaches us all about marine machinery on board ships, and theory and practicals are done on them. We are also taught other helpful courses like carpentry, lathe operation, welding, fitting, etc. Yes, I think the course makes us industry-ready.
Other: I chose this course for the economic factor that comes with it. In this field, we are able to travel worldwide while earning a good amount, which is also tax-free. In TMI, each year there is a sports meet that involves activities like cross-country, march-past, mass demonstration, football, basketball, squash, and other racket games.
