To pursue a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai, aspiring students need to meet certain eligibility criteria. These criteria determine the minimum academic qualifications and entrance examination requirements for admission. We will explore the eligibility criteria for pursuing B.Tech from VIT Chennai and shed light on the important aspects related to the admission process.
Eligibility Criteria:
Academic Qualifications: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board. The minimum aggregate marks required vary depending on the category to which the candidate belongs. For most categories, including General and OBC, a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) is required. However, the specific eligibility criteria for different categories may be subject to change, so candidates are advised to refer to the official VIT Chennai admission information for the most accurate and up-to-date details.
Age Limit: There is no specific age limit for admission to the B.Tech program at VIT Chennai.
Entrance Examination:
Admission to the B.Tech program at VIT Chennai is primarily based on the performance in the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE). The VITEEE is a national-level entrance exam conducted by VIT University to assess the candidates' aptitude in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Biology. The exam is usually held in online mode across various centers in India.
Key Points to Note:
Rank-Based Allocation: The admission process for the B.Tech program at VIT Chennai is based on the rank secured by candidates in the VITEEE. Higher-ranking candidates have better chances of securing admission to their preferred B.Tech branches.
Counseling Process: After the VITEEE results are declared, candidates are called for the counseling process based on their ranks. During counseling, candidates have the opportunity to choose their preferred branch of engineering based on their rank and availability of seats.
Branch Availability and Fees: The availability of branches and their corresponding fees depend on the candidate's rank and the number of seats available in each branch. The fee structure may vary from branch to branch, and candidates are advised to refer to the official VIT Chennai website or admission brochure for detailed fee information.
Cutoff Ranks: The cutoff ranks for each B.Tech branch at VIT Chennai may vary from year to year based on factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam and their performance. Candidates should check the official VIT Chennai website or admission brochure to know the cutoff ranks for specific branches.
In conclusion, to pursue a B.Tech from VIT Chennai, candidates must meet the minimum academic qualifications and appear for the VITEEE. The eligibility criteria, entrance examination, and admission process play crucial roles in securing admission to the desired B.Tech branch. Prospective candidates are advised to stay updated with the official VIT Chennai website for the latest information and to plan their preparation and application process accordingly.

Candidates securing a rank between 7500- 27500 are eligible for admissions in Vellore campus. The closing rank for Computer Science and Engineering (with Bioinformatics as specialisation) went up till 7500 while for Computer Science and Engineering, it went up till 15000. As per the discussion with a current student of VIT, the general cutoff for VIT Chennai campus is given below:
CSE cutoff was around 8,000 rank
CSE with specialisation in Bio was around 12,000
IT cutoff was around 9,000 rank
ECE branch had a cutoff rank of 160002. So there is a fair chance that you might not get CSE in round 1 of counseling but there is a chance in other phases. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

You can check the detail syllabus in the VIT website. The university offer updated and industry relevant curriculum. You can learn any foreign language if wish. It would be better to learn a UN language.

No, you won't be able to get CSE. CSE seats mostly finish by 30-40000 ranks only.

The faculty members in VIT Chennai are all doctorates and Ph.D. holders. Each department in engineering contains a dean, a hod and other staff members which is again classified into professors, associate professors and assistant professors followed by the research scholars. Electronics department alone boasts for its enormous number of 100+ faculty members only in VIT Chennai. VIT has a major advantage over other institutions, since it carries this system called "Fully flexible credit system" (FFCS) where students are allowed to pick the teacher of their choice for any subject based on his/her academic performance and attendance in the previous semester. For example there is a subject called "Control Systems". Students will be offered 8-10 teacher for the same course and students can select their teachers based on the availability of the slots. Overall the faculty members hail from various prestigious institutions like Nanyang Technological University, Stanford, MIT and other IITs and NITs.

When compared to other private institutions, VIT Chennai boasts off its quality in teaching and infrastructure. To attain a seat in this college, one must take up the VITEEE entrance exam that is conducted every year under specific shifts. The paper demands in-depth knowledge of class12 Physics Chemistry Mathematics with a few questions related to aptitude and English . It is mandatory for any aspirant to give this exam to secure a seat, since there is no other means or ways one can get in, by either donation or brokers. VIT ensure a smooth and pure merit based entry for its applicants. Every year almost 2 Lacs student appear for the exam, out of which students are needed to come under 30-40k rank to secure a decent course with normal fee in VIT Chennai campus. Fee is decided based on the exam rank of the student and is classified to categories. Difficulty of the entrance exam can be rated medium. (tougher than 12th and easier than JEE)
with no negative markings. After ranks are released, eligible students are called for councelling in respective centers where students are taken based on ranks and number of students appearing.

Chances of getting seat under category -1 are very less. However you can get core engineering branches under category 4 or 5.
