A genuine review of VIT.
Placements: I am about to pass out next year. From what I hear from my seniors, most of the students get placed. But a few of them get low-paid jobs, for example, 5–6 LPA, which is not good, as we expect more from a university. The highest package I have heard about in my friend group is around 30 LPA. Considering the whole college, it can be around 50–60 LPA. The average salary is around 4 LPA as per my experience. Top recruiting companies for my course are TCS, Ford, Google, Microsoft, Cognizant, Infosys, and Wipro.
Infrastructure: I love facilities my university provides to us. We get 24/7 Wi-Fi in the hostel and amazing room services. They are very particular about keeping the washrooms and floors clean all the time. They have all kinds of equipment in their labs for every branch. You can find any book you want in our university library, which is a 4-story building. The hostel provides a wide variety of food items in the mess. It covers North Indian food to South Indian food. We also have a medical centre on the campus with a 24/7 ambulance.
Faculty: Teachers are very friendly and filled with enthusiasm to teach students new things. My course curriculum is very helpful to me. I can face high competition in this new world. Coming to the exams, university conducts exams very strictly and does not encourage malpractice. These exams help us learn the core concepts rather than just memorising them.

Only toppers can survive here.
Placements: Placements are okay for CSE, but I think students have to put in a lot of effort themselves. Many companies visit the campus and there are opportunities for both IT and product-based roles. The higher packages are mostly for a small number of students. For a decent placement, coding, DSA, CGPA, and interview preparation matter a lot. Internships are available too but getting a good one is competitive.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is pretty good overall. Classrooms and computer labs are decent, and the Wi-Fi and library are useful. There are also sports facilities, canteens, and medical facilities on campus. Hostel rooms are okay, but the mess food can be inconsistent sometimes. Most of the basic facilities are available although maintenance and cleanliness can be improved in some places.
Faculty: The faculty experience is mixed. Some professors explain the topics really well and are easy to approach when we have doubts. At the same time there are some classes where it is difficult to understand everything just from the lecture. Most faculty members are knowledgeable about their subjects. For CSE I feel self-study is still important especially for programming and technical subjects. The faculty is decent.

A great campus, AC labs, library, skilled faculty, clubs, and manageable exams.
Placements: Almost 80 to 90 percent of people got placed. The rest are those with backlogs and arrears. Everyone got placed in good companies starting from an average salary package of 7 LPA. Super dream offers came for people with good CGPA and good skills (CGPA above 9+). This course requires the person to have more skills because it is mechanical and electronics. So without skills, you won't be considered as good. The lowest package went up to 3 LPA to 5 LPA.
Infrastructure: Library offers books, articles, and access to research papers. Spacious AC labs have large-screen PCs. Classrooms can occupy 60-70 seats with fans and black & white boards. Wi-Fi credentials are provided in the first year. Hostellers can use Wi-Fi from 4:00 AM to 12:00 AM on hostel premises and inside the library. Whereas, day scholars can use Wi-Fi in the library with their Wi-Fi credentials.
Faculty: Mechatronics covers both mechanical and electronics, giving broad knowledge rather than deep specialisation. Faculty are knowledgeable and industry-focused. Exams are manageable if you study consistently instead of waiting until the last week. Semester exams are not that hard and not that easy. They are of mid-level depending upon your subject knowledge and the difficulty of the exam paper, as every paper is set by the faculty. Students should study consistently.
Other: Campus is lively, clean, and well-maintained. Students can join clubs, hackathons, sports, and cultural events to build skills. Cultural fest is paid, while most teach fest events are free. Fee vary by admission category, hostel room, and mess type. Regular events help improve communication, networking, and overall personality. Campus has some restrictions for both girls and boys regarding out-timing. We are allowed to go for an outing for only 6 hours, and we need to be inside the college premises before 6:00 PM. Girls' in-time for the hostel is 8:00 PM, and for boys it is 9:00 PM.

Not a bad college. You can join it if you want to gain exposure.
Placements: VIT Chennai is a very good college. It offers very good placements. I think the median package is around 9 LPA, so it offers good value for money. Even average students can get good placements. Around 80% of the students get placed. The highest package is 1.25 crore, and the lowest package is 3.4 LPA.
Infrastructure: A lot of facilities are available at the college. The Wi-Fi is good. Labs are well-equipped. The library is high-tech, with computers available and an RFID-based book borrowing system. However, the classrooms are a bit outdated. The food available in the canteens is also bad. The medical facilities are too good. There is a separate block for medical services.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified, helpful, and knowledgeable. Every faculty member has at least one Ph.D. The quality of teaching depends on the faculty you choose through FFCS. The curriculum is relevant, does not include unnecessary subjects, and prepares students for the industry. The semester exams are a bit tough due to the introduction of the new ACE curriculum.
Other: The college is not bad. The cultural events are good, but the management is very poor.

Overall, it is a bad college. Be wise.
Placements: Almost every student gets placed, but the package varies. Hardly any high-paying roles are offered. Most students get placed in mass recruiting companies. Shortlisting is random as well, so students should not keep high expectations for college placements. They need to work hard for off-campus opportunities.
Infrastructure: Labs and classrooms are good. Wi-Fi is available, but it is provided only from 6 AM to 12 AM. The speed is slow. Hostels are okay, and rooms are fine, but beds are bunked, which is a problem. The hostel is quite strict. The mess food is very bad.
Faculty: Some faculty members are good, while some are extremely bad. The curriculum is fine and up to the mark. Some teachers are egoistic and do not evaluate properly. A few teachers show favoritism toward South Indian students, but it is what it is. Semester exams are not that difficult. Just studying for two weeks before exams is enough to pass.
Other: Fests are organized, but are not very good. They are very restrictive and too expensive. So they are not worth it.

Overall, the college is good with decent campus life, but it is overcrowded.
Placements: Almost 80–90 percent of the students who applied for placements got placed last year, mostly through mass recruiters. They offer around 4–6 LPA. The highest package in my course was 44 LPA, and the lowest was around 3 LPA. Companies like Whirlpool, ABB, Honeywell, and Alstom are top recruiters. Almost everyone here gets an internship offer by the 3rd year, either via college or outside. Because it consists of credit which is necessary to complete the degree.
Infrastructure: Classrooms and lab facilities are decent. Library has a separate building which is open from 6 AM to 12 AM. The internet is sometimes good and sometimes poor. On average, the speed is around 2 Mbps and works from 6 AM to 12 AM. The quality of food in the mess is decent. There is a health center on campus where medical help is available free of cost. Sports and games are based on personal interest, but sports club frequently conducts various tournaments.
Faculty: It depends on the professor you choose. Most of them are Ph.D. holders, but not all Ph.D. holders are necessarily good teachers. Overall, the teaching quality is good. From the first year, they ask students to make projects and teach practical skills, which makes students industry-ready sooner or later. The difficulty of the semester depends on the subjects and total credits taken. Almost 80–90 percent of students pass every course.
Other: EEE is one of the core courses which is stable and always has scope. But to be honest I always wanted ECE but I made a mistake in online counselling and landed in EEE. Festivals and events are conducted regularly by various clubs in the college. Approximately 152 clubs on campus such as sports, dance, tech, music, and cultural clubs. So the academic pressure does not affect students much.

VIT Chennai does not receive a separate ranking from NIRF. It shares the unified ranking awarded to the parent institute. In 2025, VIT was ranked by NIRF under university, overall, Engineering, and research categories.
