Mystory@Ashpreet Singh: How I chose my course and college
If I have to talk about my studies during school days, I was never interested in studying Science. I had this eternal love for numbers, so without thinking much I chose Commerce which proved to be a good choice for me.
With your marks above average, but less than the toppers you never get to choose a Delhi University college, and ultimately you are ready to take admission whichever college you get.
In my case, I really wanted to be in SGGSCC, DU as I was really fascinated with the college societies and other facilities that the college had to offer. I was lucky enough to secure a seat in a college of my choice.
When it was time to choose the course, I was confused between Economics (Hons.) and BCom (Hons.). However, the confusion got solved when the cut-offs were declared.
How I cracked college admission
I wanted to secure a seat in this college and I got a chance to do so. There was no entrance test for admission to the courses. Delhi University’s basic selection criteria is the declaration of cut-off list, and that's how I got admission into SGGSCC.
My college experience
I hate attending classes and I love doing everything other than that. I don't attend classes at all because I feel that there's much more to learn from elsewhere rather than just absorbing the content from academic books.
In my first year, I was a part of our college's folk dance society, but then I left that and joined Finance and Investment Cell and Personality Development Cell. Along with that, I volunteered for 2 NGO's (Moksha Foundation & LFT) as well, and luckily I got the chance to serve as the President of our college's Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) unit.
In my second year of college, I started working on my own venture. This was an internship portal, Initiating You. I worked on it for a year, but then we had to stop the operations due to some unavoidable reasons.
In my third year, I got the chance to be an office bearer for Finance and Investment Cell, and one of my friends and I founded an English Literary Society in our college. I also organised a TEDx event in my college which was conducted on 25th February, 2017.
College life has brought drastic changes in my life and I am really glad and blessed that numerous opportunities came into my way. Furthermore, I am happy and content that I got the chance to utilise these opportunities.
I would love to go back and utilise each and every moment I wasted in doing some unproductive work because I believe that there are a lot more things that I could have done.
