Mystory@Sanjana Tarika: How I selected my college and course
We are always one decision away from a completely different life. Selecting a college and course after 12th standard is one difficult decision for every student. Students are confused as this decision is going to go a long way in determining their future. I too had similar situation after my 12th standard. One of the main dilemma that every student faces is whether to give preference to college or the course. It is advisable to give preference to the course because that is what you are going to study for the next 3 years of your life.
I was confused between choosing Economics (Hons.) and B.com (Hons.), but I finally zeroed down to B.Com (Hons.) as I enquired and found that Eco (Hons.) requires a Mathematical aptitude and I wanted to study all aspects of commerce. I remember when the first cut off came, I paid the fees in Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce for B.com (Hons.). I had thought that if I get admission in any other better college in the second list, I will change the college. At that point this was the best option I had.
Also, I took advice from some of the alumni of the college that I knew and all of them gave extremely positive reviews about the college and faculty. In fact, my advice to all the students would be to have a thorough research about all colleges before selecting one. They can ask their seniors, relatives or use the websites like Shiksha.com for reviews. I finally did my B.com (Hons.) from SGGSCC and was very happy with my decision as this college is an amalgamation of good crowd, faculty, placements and active student societies. Some of my friends also changed their colleges after subsequent cut off lists. So it’s very important to keep a check on subsequent cut off lists. A journey through the selection process is often stressful but my advice to all the students would be to take a well informed decision with a calm mind. All the best!
