Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV) University was formerly known as the University of Indore. It was established in the year 1964 as a state university by the Act of state legislature, Madhya Pradesh. It is named after the Marathi queen Devi Ahilya in the year 1988. Initially, the university was restricted for the education of the people of Indore, as it was an industrial belt. Later the university was expanded to the seven districts of Madhya Pradesh which was dominated by the tribal people called Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Barwani and Khargone. The university is known as a pioneer in creating the idea of Self Supporting programs or courses in a university in India. The university has two campuses known as Takshila Parisar and the Avanti Parisar and an administrative campus known as Nalanda Parisar, all of which is built on 760 acres of land.
