International students are required to take the GMAT exam for admission in NITIE, Mumbai.
The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) is located in Mumbai, the financial capital of India, and is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious business schools in the country. Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM), Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE), Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainability Management (PGDSM), and PhD are the current courses offered by the institute. Each course has its own admission requirements that prospective students must satisfy in order to be accepted into the intended program.
Entrance Examinations Accepted at NITIE
A candidate must take the CAT exam in order to be considered for admission to the PGDIM and PGDSM programs. For admission to PGDIE, candidates must take the GATE exam and achieve a score above the minimum threshold. In accordance with this, a student may also apply for admission to the PGDSM program using their GATE scores. International students are required to take the GMAT exam for admission. There are a variety of PhD entrance exams whose scores are accepted at NITIE. Among these assessments are the CAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE, and JRF (UGC/CSIR). Given that NITIE is a government-run college, the institute does not currently organise and administer its own entrance examination.
Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) for PGDIE, PGDIM and PGDSM
In the wake of the third wave of the ongoing pandemic in January 2022, the GD portion of the selection process was eliminated this year and its weightage was redistributed across other sections. The majority of the weight is assigned to the personal interview, and the final merit list is largely determined by this factor. For each course, whether through GATE or CAT, all candidates are required to go through a Personal Interview. In addition, the student's profile, which includes academic background, diversity factor and work experience is given thirty per cent weightage.
Commonly asked questions
NITIE (IIM Mumbai) offers both entrance-based and merit-based admissions. Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for MBA programme applications. Below is a table with an overview of NITIE courses, eligibility, and selection criteria.
| Courses | Eligibility |

PG Diploma | Graduation : 60 % Exams : GATE |
Admission to PGDIE and PGDSM
For admission to these two courses, candidates must have a CAT score that is high enough to meet or exceed the minimum qualifying score established for their respective categories in order to be considered. Nevertheless, there are specific criteria that are used to break ties. In the event that two or more students achieve the same final composite score, the following factors are used to rank those students:
- Overall CAT score (Scores in the QA section, the VARC section)
- the section on DILR
- Class X performance
- The grades from Class XII
- Attendance in Class XII (recent appearance will be ranked higher)
- Date of Birth (younger candidate will be ranked higher)
In the PhD course, the Research Aptitude is a must and the selection largely depends on it but there is a particular policy that can be found on the internet.
