From an Aspiring Graduate to Liquidity Risk Management Professional in Banking: The Journey of DBA Success Story

Introduction:
In today's fast-paced and ever-evolving financial landscape, the role of liquidity risk management professionals has become increasingly crucial. This success story chronicles the transformative journey of an individual who, armed with determination and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), achieved remarkable career goals in the field of liquidity risk management in banking sector in the UAE. Through perseverance, continuous learning, and a deep passion for their craft, this individual overcame numerous challenges, ultimately emerging as a highly respected and accomplished leader in the field of liquidity risk.
- The Aspiring Graduate:
My journey began when I submitted my application to the SP Jain School of Global Management and was contacted Dr Maddulety. He expressed keen interest in the ideas that I articulated and immediately we struck a chord. The decision to pursue DBA was made there and then. Having already completed my Chartered Accountancy, MBA (Finance) and a degree in the field of Law, I knew that I had to pursue my career path in liquidity risk management. Consequently, with a burning desire to make a difference in the financial industry in the UAE, I decided to go ahead with the DBA course offered by SPJ. Recognizing the importance of specialization in bank risk management, I enrolled in a prestigious DBA program, eager to gain the knowledge and expertise required to excel in this challenging field.
- Broadening Horizons:
The DBA program provided me with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of risk management, ranging from models for liquidity risk to funding aspects of market risk and finally, to regulatory compliance. The curriculum incorporated both theoretical concepts and practical applications, offering me the opportunity to develop a well-rounded skill set. Armed with this knowledge, I felt equipped to navigate the complex world of banking liquidity risk management with confidence.

- Nurturing a Growth Mindset:
The DBA program not only expanded my technical expertise but also fostered a growth mindset within me. Through rigorous research and critical thinking exercises, I learned to analyze complex problems, devise innovative solutions, and adapt to evolving industry trends. This mindset became invaluable as I faced the challenges of my career, enabling me to embrace change and view setbacks as opportunities for growth.
- Industry Immersion:
During my DBA program, I actively sought opportunities to gain practical experience in the field of liquidity risk management. I researched several banks within and outside UAE, which helped put my theoretical knowledge into practice. These experiences allowed me to witness first-hand the intricate workings of liquidity risk management departments and understand the real-world implications of my academic learnings.
- Networking and Mentorship:
Recognizing the power of connections, I engaged in networking events, conferences, publishing research papers and industry seminars throughout his DBA journey. These interactions provided me with valuable insights, expanded my professional network, and introduced me to industry experts who would later become influential mentors. Their guidance and support played a pivotal role in shaping his career trajectory and helping him navigate the competitive landscape of bank risk management. Simultaneously, I was being mentored by my DBA guides who provided strong support throughout the journey of the DBA course.
- Continuous Learning and Promotions:
With a thirst for knowledge, I pursued continuous learning opportunities even after completing my DBA program. I attended workshops, obtained certifications, and engaged in ongoing professional development. This commitment to lifelong learning ensured that I stayed at the forefront of industry trends and remained adaptable in an ever-changing banking environment. The publications never stopped; giving rise to ongoing learning opportunities at every stage of the career. Looking at my learning track record and complex problem-solving skills, I was promoted to a higher position within the organization.
- Taking on Challenges:
As I advanced in my career, I encountered various challenges typical to the liquidity risk management profession. However, armed with DBA certification, I tackled these obstacles head-on. Whether it was implementing robust liquidity risk assessment frameworks, developing innovative risk mitigation strategies, or navigating complex regulatory landscapes, my knowledge and expertise enabled me to make sound decisions and deliver exceptional results.
- Future aspirations - Leadership and Recognition:
Over time, I am positive that my dedication, expertise, and exceptional performance will propel me into leadership roles within the banking liquidity risk management sector in the UAE. I also hope that I will be invited to speak at industry conferences, and approached for expert opinions on emerging risk trends.

If we talk about Cutoffs, SP Jain is much easier to crack than the to IIMs that compete with it. Because if you want to have a call from old IIMs then you have to get 99+ percentile. On the other hand, for SP Jain you can get the call at even 85 percentile.
