How IIMS was able to achieve nearly 100% placements during lockdown

Many educational institutions have felt the heat of the current pandemic situation globally. Most of such institutes in India were either starting their admission process or placements session. Most of the institutes/universities that had invested in technology and have been utilising the online platforms to perform various academic activities. These institutes have made a smooth transition from offline to online methods to teach, admit and provide placements to students. One such institute is International Institute of Management Studies that was in middle of its placements session when the lockdown was announced. Now, this process has been taken online and is still ongoing. The college is going above and beyond for placements 2020 using latest technologies.

These unprecedented times are challenging for everyone – right from students to professionals and employers. While students are worried about how they will land their dream jobs, employers are worried about finding the right talent during the lockdown.

Face-to-face interviews have become impossible and so, many colleges have put their placements on hold. But the IIMS placement during a lockdown situation was different.

Technology has come to the rescue at IIMS Pune. One of the best colleges for MBA and PGDM in Pune, IIMS has thought of a creative solution to help students get placed despite the lockdown situation. The placement season is usually at the end of the last semester in a post-graduation course and the second-year students at IIMS were looking forward to high packages and good job offers from top MNCs.

Since March, the pandemic started growing in the country and by the end of the month, everything was shut. While many employers withdrew job offers given to other professionals and reduced their hiring efforts, the placements team at IIMS pulled up their socks and thought of unique ways to make interviews possible for the students and employers. They reached out to business leaders and convinced them to continue the placements even in the lockdown situation. Over 100 students out of 240 were offered summer internships and the college is on the path of achieving 100 per cent placements even in these testing times.

Technology to the Rescue

Most of the students and faculty members at IIMS Pune are highly tech-savvy and continue to think of innovative and creative solutions to solve complex challenges. That’s why the team came up with a smart solution for the placements dilemma. Although companies were unable to come to the campus during the Covid-19 pandemic, the placements team coordinated online interviews for various students. These included Zoom calls, webinars, and video conferencing for students and employers. As a result, the interviews became possible and in fact, many students excelled in the online interview and got an instant positive result. During these tough times when we all need some motivation and determination to move forward, getting a job offer from your dream company can be a total game-changer.

Academics Aren’t Locked Down

The teachers and faculty at IIMS Pune are also conducting regular online classes to ensure students don’t miss out on learning during this time. The institute is ensuring that the lockdown doesn’t affect academics and keeps students motivated to learn and grow. They are helping students stay connected with the curriculum and also with the professors at the college. Plus, it keeps the spirits of students high during these tough times when they virtually meet their teachers and fellow students. The various video calling apps help the institute to ensure multiple participation from students and constant communication.

A New Beginning

Placements at IIMS Pune during the lockdown situation have been successful in many ways. Not only has the college proven to companies that they are highly evolved and tech-savvy, but also made new beginnings possible for students during these tough times. Many of the students at IIMS are also joining their companies during this lockdown. Even though they will be working from home initially, they will learn a lot about the company and operations in this period.
