I was always sure that I wanted to choose Humanities as my stream. I was interested in Geography since middle school and knew I would pursue that in the coming years. Geography fascinated me and as a subject and kept challenging me to know more and discover new things. It is the science of everything that happens under and over the earth and in this dynamic world, there is always something new to study. I was assured I would never grow tired of this subject.
I went ahead and applied for BA (Hons) Geography at the University of Delhi and got into Miranda house. I realised geography had so many facets and studying it at college level allows you to delve deeper into the subject. There were numerous specific papers and a few of my favourites were GIS and Remote Sensing, Urban Geography, and Regional Development.
While looking for postgrad courses, I came across Amity University, Noida which was offering an MSc in GIS and RS. Hence, I applied for it. I wish to apply my knowledge gained in this programme towards my other areas of interest, namely, Urban and Regional Planning.
Unplanned growth of our urban centres is a causative factor for many of our problems confronting the city dwellers. We need to fix this. I hope to be able to contribute my bit.
Keeping Covid situation in mind, Amity had devised a selection process that was held fully online. There was a Video interview process, wherein questions were asked, and we had to upload the video responses.
There was no need of coaching. Grooming at Miranda House backed by my interest in the subject enabled me to secure my seat.
Due to the Pandemic situation, it was not possible for me to attend college at the campus. All my classes took place online. Despite classes being online, the faculty made sure that they were no less than face-to-face teaching. I like attending practical classes since they demand more focus and involvement. The pandemic somewhat limited the opportunities for that many extra-curricular activities as one would expect in normal situations. Yet, the activities that were organised online were stupendous. From Alumni Meet, to Amity Fest, to Convocation, nothing seemed to be missed out.
There are MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) that I take. As a person, I am certainly more efficient today and better organised. I manage my tasks more competently.
