Established in 1857, Madras University is one of the oldest universities in India which is also popularly known as ‘The University of Madras.’ It has 90 affiliated colleges that collectively offer 27 UG, 21 PG, 18 Professional, 21 Diploma, and 10 Certificate courses. 

The university follows the semester exam scheme for all its courses, these are conducted every six months. (odd semester and even semester). Odd semester exams are conducted in November-December and the results are declared in March. The even semester exams are conducted in April-May and the results are declared in July.

Madras University Result 2020

Madras University declares the semester results on its official website. Students can check their end semester examination result by following the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Students first need to visit the official website of Madras University (www.unom.ac.in)

Step 2: Scroll down to the ‘Latest Announcement’ Section available on the home page

Step 3: Further, click on ‘Result of University of Madras November Semester/ Yearly exam’ link

Step 4: The result login page opens up where a student needs to enter the registration number and hit ‘Submit’ button

Step 5: The semester score along with the result status will get displayed on the screen. You can download the result or take a printout of the same for future references

Madras University Evaluation 2020

The evaluation scheme of Madras University is based on two indices including internal assessment and end-semester examination. A student must earn 75 per cent and above of attendance for appearing for the end-semester examination (theory/ practical). There is no minimum passing marks for internal assessment. However, for end-semester examination, the passing minimum is 40 per cent.

Award of Grade & Division:

Madras University has a CGPA and grade-based system for evaluating a students’ semester performance. Corresponding to the letter grade obtained by a candidate, pass division is allotted to the candidate. Tabulated-below is the detailed CGPA-grade schema of Madras University:

Computation of GPA & CGPA:

  • GPA for a semester = ∑iCiGi ÷ ∑iCi

GPA is the sum of the multiplication of grade points by the credits of the courses divided by the sum of the credits of the courses in a semester.

  • CGPA for the entire programme = ∑n∑iCniGni ÷ ∑n∑iCni

CGPA is the sum of the multiplication of grade points by the credits of the entire programme divided by the sum of the credits of the courses of the entire programme where,

Ci = Credits earned for course in any semester

Gi = Grade Points obtained for course in any semester

n = Semester in which such courses were credited

Award of degree:

A student shall be eligible for the award of the degree only if he has undergone the prescribed course of study in for a period of not less than three academic years and passed the examinations of all the six semesters prescribed earning a minimum of 140 credits.

Madras University Revaluation 2020

For students who are not satisfied with the results of the current semester and want retotaling/ revaluation can fill the respective application form to get their scorecard revaluated. The application for the same should be filled within one month from the date of the result declaration. The form can be obtained from the examination cell of the University. The duly filled application form along with the prescribed fee needs to be submitted back to the office.

  • Retotaling: All UG Students who appeared for their semester examinations are eligible for applying for retotaling of their answer scripts. In such a case, only the marks are totaled again. The copy is not rechecked
  • Revaluation: All current batch students who have appeared for their semester examinations are eligible for revaluation of their answer scripts. In such a case, without considering previous marks, the University checks the copy of the student again
  • Photocopy of the answer scripts: Students who have applied for revaluation can download their answer scripts from the University website after 15 days from the date of publication of the results

Madras University Reappear Exam 2020

  • Reappear exam: Students who fail to achieve 40 per cent or above in the end semester examination of a particular course, has to give a reappear exam. The reappear exam is held in the next consecutive years. The internal assessment marks are carry forwarded to the reappear exam
  • Instant exam: A student who has an arrear of only one theory paper in the current final semester examination of the UG programme is eligible to appear for the instant exam
