IES MCRC’s mentoring programme helps to select the right career path, says Rohan Madnani
I opted for commerce in school days as I had an affinity for numbers, economy and business, and how they work. However, after completing my graduation in Bachelors of Commerce (BCom), I felt the need to polish my marketing skills. I had theoretical knowledge, but I lacked practical exposure. So, I decided to pursue MBA in Marketing. I chose IES Management College and Research Centre for post-graduation. After detailed research on the institute, I found that my interests dwelled well with this college. The course of study at IES MCRC for Marketing has helped me gain a lot of knowledge in sales, leadership management skills, consumer trends, market strategies, product management and market research, making me business-ready. The case studies and presentations on these subjects are helping me in the practical implications of marketing in the business world.
To prepare myself for admission at IES MCRC, I underwent CET preparatory sessions at one of the institutes. I also got myself enrolled in online test series that helped me in improving my subject knowledge. There were regular mock tests and online video solutions that taught me a lot of tips and tricks that proved out to be a great time saver. The entrance test at the institute was followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. The questions asked in these rounds are generally based on current affairs. I started reading books and news to keep myself abreast with the latest happenings around. It was challenging for me to step out of my comfort zone and shape myself for a better future. Finally, the results were out for CET and I was able to score 87 percentile. It was easy to apply for the college through online registration. The only difficult task was to get through with the selection criteria.
The institute follows the trimester system. The students are made to study all common subjects in the first year and the options to choose electives open up in the second year of the curriculum. Also, the institute offers Self Learning Courses (SLC) which are to be mandatorily opted by students to earn credit points. I chose CSR activity, Rural Immersion, Advance Excel and live project. Under CSR activity, I was working with Bhumi NGO in which worked for the betterment of the ecosystem. We cleaned the beaches. As a part of live projects, I have worked with 1MG and Impetus 360. The institute also organises many social events that serve as platforms for students to showcase their team management skills and leadership skills. I have been part of many social events such as Pratyush, Rhythm and other marketing, HR and Finance Club events. Also, Corporate Kabbadi and outbound training activities are a part of the leadership and teamwork module the institute believes in learning while doing. So, they believe these sports and adventure activities are a great way to learn management skills.
IES MCRC is among a few institutes that pioneered the mentoring programme. Every student is allotted a mentor from the team of faculty members to talk and discuss various career opportunities. I am in regular contact with my mentor who helps me decide the suitable courses for me that will add value to my resume. With frequent workshops on personality development, I feel the change in me. I feel more confident and industry-ready.
My long term goal is to secure a managerial position in sales and marketing.

If you’re leaning toward the PGDM at MERI, you’re actually making a very practical "corporate-first" choice.
The biggest advantage of a PGDM over a traditional MBA is agility. Because MERI’s PGDM is autonomous (AICTE-approved), they don't have to wait years for a university to update a stale syllabus
