Mentoring at IES MCRC has led to positive disruption, says Fazal Sayyed
Initially, I was fascinated by how these multinational companies functions and I was always keen on working for one, which in turn permeated my interest towards the stream of Commerce. However, after completing my graduation in Commerce with specialisation in Accounting and Finance & Marketing, I felt there was a need to further brush up my interest which was Marketing. So, that’s how I decided to go for further studies and pursue a management degree in Marketing. After all the research, I chose to do PGDM at IES MCRC as it conformed well to what I was looking for in an educational institution. As a management student, we are expected to put in late hours and IES Management College and Research Centre is the only institution that doesn’t just teach us to stretch ourselves but also teach us to go beyond the limits while maintaining a healthy personal and family life. We are addicted to putting in 24x7 for our work but still, this institution has taught us the sorcery to discover the 25th hour and 8th day of the week to dedicate to our family. ‘Faculties’ more than just faculties are nonpareil in their fields that not only teach us but guide us at the same time making us employable and ‘Industry Ready’ by enlightening us with their experiences and the practical knowledge that they have.
As I was keen on doing a management course, I was required to prepare for CET in order to apply to colleges as it is one of the most essential criteria to get through, I did not go to any particular coaching classes for the same but took the help of online videos available on YouTube and I managed to score 85 percentile. This was not the end, now after a turbulent journey of sitting for one of the toughest exams in the country to keeping myself well abreast with the hard news to answering ‘Tell me about yourself’ questions in interviews, I managed to get into a couple of B-Schools. I chose to take the two-year journey with IES MCRC as it conformed well to what I was looking for.
IES MCRC follows a trimester system, wherein the students have common subjects from all specialisations in the first year and the options to choose specialisation electives open up in the second year and with the obligation of completing 130 credits of courses during these two years. The institute is well known for its Self-learning courses where we have to take up Live Projects, Domain-Specific Projects, CSR Activities and Certification Courses in order to complete the 12 credits and enhance our CV’s. It is one of the most important documents that you will come across during your MBA, it is a clever way of dressing you up and presenting yourself to potential recruiters. As part of SLC, I have done two live projects, one with Indiamart and the other one with Shiksha.com, Rural Immersion Project, a Social Sensitisation Project, Business Mandarin Course – Basic Level and Completed Microsoft Excel Certification which has helped me add value to my CV. The Institute also organises conferences, seminars, inter-college competition and intra-college club activities and events which acts as a platform for students to showcase their management skills. IES MCRC also participates in all top of the line national and local competitions year after year with organisations such as CII, IMC, AIMA, AIMS, BMA, IIM (A) to name a few. I have been part of BMA Innothon, a Problem Solving Strategic Management Competition contesting for the prestigious Dandekar Trophy representing IES MCRC. Also, Corporate Kabbadi and outbound training activities are a part of the leadership and teambuilding module as the institute believes in Experiential Learning.
The main focus of the faculty at any B-School has to be “Mentoring” wherein the senior faculties help the weak students to strengthen their weak points. Here, at IES MCRC the whole concept of Mentoring has gone through a Positive Disruption. As I said earlier we are addicted to putting in 24x7 for our work and so does the faculty they have taught us the sorcery to discover the 25th hour and 8th day of the week because the hustle never stops. At IES MCRC, we practice the concept of ‘Super Mentoring’ wherein the institute not only identify the weak students and mentor them but also identify all the students that have been excelling throughout in their studies and help them in that marginal shift in their career which is otherwise neglected by all Business schools.
My long term goal is to secure a Chief Marketing Officer Position in a reputed company. I believe

If you’re leaning toward the PGDM at MERI, you’re actually making a very practical "corporate-first" choice.
The biggest advantage of a PGDM over a traditional MBA is agility. Because MERI’s PGDM is autonomous (AICTE-approved), they don't have to wait years for a university to update a stale syllabus
