Not just skill development, IES MCRC focuses on personality building as well, says Shreyali Panchal

After the result was announced, I applied for IES MCRC. I got the call for the Psychometric test and GDPI round. All three rounds were scheduled on the same day. I was nervous as it was my first experience but I managed to clear all the rounds. After a few days I was notified about my selection in IES MCRC. With day-long lectures, we hardly get any extra time. But, if I get some, I like to read books or search for online courses that can help me in future.

During school days, I had a great interest in Science and its subjects. This made me choose Science as my core subject in Class 12. Science is a vast field providing a variety of options such as BSc in Zoology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Pharmaceuticals, MBBS and BDS. I chose BSc in Biotechnology after Class 12 XII as it is an emerging field, and deals with minute detailing of biology and technology. It helped me understand the subject and industrial technology. Graduation gave me a clear understanding of my potential and what I can do in my future. I wanted to pursue a management degree ahead. The blend of scientific technicalities with management skills would make a great career.

I started searching for colleges in Mumbai offering management degrees. I studied the profiles of colleges such as Welingkar and SIES but while comparing, I got to know about what is best for me and my search ended with the decision to apply in IES Management College and Research Centre which offers PGDM in Pharma and Healthcare Management. The reason to choose this college was quality education, experienced faculty and a great placement record.

I appeared for different qualifying exams such as MBA-CET and XAT without joining any preparatory classes. My brother guided me to solve sample papers and previous years’ question papers. This strategy worked and helped in clearing the exams. Also, I started preparing for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview round alongside.

With day-long lectures, we hardly get any extra time. But, if I get some, I like to read books or search for online courses that can help me in future.

We have different subjects in every term but my favorites subjects are Marketing Strategy and Law & legal aspects in pharma. So I never miss these lectures.

Talking about extra-curricular activities, I was a member of an event which we students organised – ‘INSIGHT 2019’. It was all about the pharma industry where we got the opportunity to interact with prominent delegates of the industry. I also actively participate in other competitions and seminars organised in college and outside the college.

If given chance, I would like to go to one of my favorite companies for a day and look around the environment, their culture and how they work.

Before entering IES MCRC, I didn’t have a chance to interact with people and take part in activities that actually helps me build my personality. So I was less confident and was a little scared while talking to others. But, IES MCRC gave me the biggest opportunity when I was elected as Class Representative. Today, I see the change in myself. I feel more confident and energetic. My communication skills and social skills have improved. There is a lot of change in my soft skills because of frequent workshops and seminars on personality development. While organising events, we get to showcase our decision-making abilities and problem-solving skills

Besides the regular curriculum, I am doing additional courses on team building and management, leadership management and crisis management. These courses help me understand the real-world scenarios and challenges corporates face through case studies and live projects.

I am excited about my Summer internship at Molecule Advertising, a leading pharma advertising company. This will give me three months of rigorous working experience, the opportunity to acquire new skills, the opportunity to meet clients and conduct market research. I aspire to build my career in pharma marketing and lead an organisation in future.

If you’re leaning toward the PGDM at MERI, you’re actually making a very practical "corporate-first" choice.

The biggest advantage of a PGDM over a traditional MBA is agility. Because MERI’s PGDM is autonomous (AICTE-approved), they don't have to wait years for a university to update a stale syllabus
