  1. Newspaper editors have the daily responsibility of deciding which news stories are printed in the paper. Long before the paper is published, the editor assigns reporters to cover the news, checks for accuracy and fairness in the newspaper's articles and writes headlines.
  2. It is not unusual for a newspaper editor to have worked as a journalist or proofreader before becoming an editor. 
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interest in current events, ability to thrive under deadlines, experience with desktop publishing programs
  4. The editor-in-chief or principal editor should ensure that the journal's editors and editorial board are identified in the journal masthead; receive the necessary training and oversight to adequately perform editorial functions; and actively perform their responsibilities, such as assigning reviewers or reviewing.
Q:   Who Can Study Editing Courses?
A: 

Editing can be pursued by candidates who demonstrate creativity and excellent technical skills in using computer softwares and other editing tools. It can be pursued by students who have just completed Class 12th from recognised board. Such students can pursue Diploma or undergraduate courses in Film Making or Editing.

Candidates who don't have a background in Film Studies or Acting and have BTech or BCA background can also pursue Post Graduate Diploma courses and other short-term online courses offered by Coursera or Udemy.

Q:   Is a degree compulsory to become a video editor?
A: 

Video Editing is a technical field for which candidates should have knowledge of various video editing tools and software. Hence, without a formal education in video editing, one cannot make a successful career.

Many colleges which admit students to editing courses offer less number of seats and candidates must appear in the entrance examination in order to be eligible for the course. Moreover, candidates must have studied Visual Communications or Film Studies or Film Making at the undergraduate level in order to be eligible for Master's courses.

Q:   Can a student take admission in editing course after 10th?
A: 

After class 10th, you can't do any graduate /degree programme in Editing. However, there are short term courses for which you may apply. I will suggest you better finish your higher secondary first and then go for any of these.
