While CBSE used an alternative mode of assessment to evaluate regular students’ CBSE 12th results 2021, private students have been asked to appear for offline exams.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting offline exams for private students of Class 12 starting August 16 until September 15. The announcement has left several students angry as well as upset as they have been demanding the cancellation of their CBSE Class 12 exams. While the board used an alternative mode of assessment to evaluate regular students’ CBSE 12th results 2021, private students have been asked to appear for offline exams. Students also claim that the private CBSE 12th exam dates are clashing with the engineering and medical college admission exams, i.e. JEE and NEET. According to the announcement made by the Board, CBSE 12th results of regular students will be announced by July 31 or August first week. Students believe that this will put them at a disadvantageous front while applying for college admissions.
While justifying its decision to conduct offline exams, CBSE said, “In the case of regular students, schools have conducted a unit test, mid-term and pre-board examination and thus the performance records of these students were available. However, in the case of private candidates, no records based on which their assessment could be done.”
While talking to Shiksha.com, Vardaan Kumar, a CBSE private candidate from Delhi said that the Board must promote students. When students across the country can be promoted, then why not CBSE private students? He further added that there are many students who lose seats in their dream colleges because of CBSE. The Board must understand that the situation is affecting students mentally.”
Meanwhile, social media platforms are also flooding with tweets and posts demanding the cancelation of exams and the promotion of students. #CBSEprivatestudentslivesmatter, #CBSEPrivateExamCancel, and #PromoteCBSEPrivateStudents have been trending on Twitter. CBSE, however, clarified that they cannot have an alternative mode of assessment for these students as the board does not have data for them like in the case of regular students.
After flooding the social media platforms with anger and requests, candidates are now planning to protest outside CBSE headquarters. According to the reports, over 22,000 students had registered to appear for CBSE Class 12 in private mode.
