Mystory@Umang Katta: How I chose my course and career
Immediately after completing my class 12th, I started preparing for various entrance exams in order to seek admission into the IITs, and other engineering colleges of repute. Being good in academics made me score a decent rank in AIEEE (now JEE Main/Advanced). After cracking the written exam, college seats were filled through counselling, on the basis of which a seat was allotted in one of the college campuses. still feel that better counselling in class 12th would have helped me score even more, landing into a better college than this.
After the counselling process ended, I managed to grab a seat in IIITDM-Jabalpur, one of the IIIT's established by MHRD and chose the Stream Electronics and Communication Engineering as per my interest. After Btech I planned to appear for CAT, seeking admission into an MBA college of repute. Yet again my intellect made me score a higher percentile and I chose LBSIM (Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management), New Delhi. PGDM-Finance was a flagship course at LBSIM. I regret not putting in much efforts but feel lucky to crack admission in the first go.
My college experience
IIITDM (Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing) Jabalpur being a Central Government owned college, the facilities and faculty were very good irrespective of its fee. The faculty excelled in their skills and have a teaching experience of minimum 10 years. The Labs were very good, be it IT lab, Mechanics Lab, Electronics Lab, Mechatronics Lab, and many more. Various extracurricular activities were organized every year like cultural fest, technical fest and sports fest. Colleges across the country were invited to participate and compete with the in-house students. This was the best phase of my life, I must say.
I completed my Post Graduation from a private college and there were no hostels in the campus, one needs to search for their accommodation somewhere near the campus or as preferred. But this was also one of the nice experience one can learn from. The faculties were very good and they had a good experience on their respective fields. Various analytical tools and software were taught during the course period, which helps in cracking a good company during your placements. Our college had a 100% placement record which was a good opportunity for every student. The only thing I wish would have been was a hostel within the college premises.
