An institute is allowed to offer diplomas and not a degree however, such degrees need to be approved by AICTE and also need to be given equivalent status by AIU to a PG degree in order to be eligible for applying in a government job specially teaching and research. AIMA PGDM is not an equivalent to MBA. It is not a full time program. So, you don't get placement facilities as far as MNC is concerned, if they are hiring through campus placement, you have no chance for lateral hiring, it depends if MNCs are asking full-time PGPM, you are not allowed, if they are asking a degree, you have no chance . It does not have equivalence status by AIU.
Here are the excerpts:
Post Graduate Diploma in Management is approved by AICTE since 1994. It is at par with MBA in terms of Course Design & Content. However, technically PGDM & MBA are two different programs, MBA is offered by a University and PGDM is offered by Non-University Institutes. It depends on Individual Universities to consider the PGDM equivalence to MBA. Like Aligarh Muslim University considers the AIMA-PGDM equivalent to MBA.

First of all, don't feel worried. According to the bill, all the IIMS have been empowered to provide a degree instead of a Diploma. Earlier, only universities were allowed to provide MBA degrees while all the private institutes used to give a Diploma. Though the course outline is almost the same in both degree and Diploma, but the value of MBA is more, especially in countries outside India. However, the good thing is that many organizations as well as competitive exams consider Post graduate Diploma to be equivalent to MBA. Please evaluate the pros and cons and check your list of expectations and requirements for making a more informed decision. I hope you will find this information useful. All the best for your future endeavors.

What is the duration of PGDM? What if I have 2 years of gap?
Dear Gaurav, Our PGDM program is of 2 years and maximum time to complete the program is 6 years so may take a gap in between if required.
I don't think that 2-year gap in your career history will affect your admission and placement profile. However, if you do write an essay about yourself, you could talk about what you did during that time. Not at all, for admission in MBA, I don't think so that you will face problems. However, if you do write an essay about yourself, you could talk about what you did during that time. Not at all, for admission in MBA, I don't think so that you will face problems.
But in job profile, very few places you find some problems but don't worry it is not certain. If you do good in the interview then gap doesn't play a big role.
So, don't worry about the gap, just do whatever you want either admission or job.
All the best.
