GITAM is really a student-friendly college.
Placements: Placements at GITAM are not determined as of now because the very first batch is yet to attend placements. However, if we have to believe the information provided by lecturers about job opportunities, it seems like there will be some placements. If companies are concerned about this course, then there will be a huge range of possible career options. You could be a journalist, an editor, a writer, a director, a lecturer, a filmmaker or even a social media manager. I know one student who did an internship at a media company, and it is apparent that other students were also provided with opportunities. So, overall, it is not a certainty that you will get placed, but there are opportunities you need to grab.
Infrastructure: As I am a day scholar, I don't know about the hostel environment. However, the infrastructure of our college is very well maintained, and the washrooms are extremely hygienic. Classrooms are equipped with systems, projectors and a Wi-Fi facility, but the network might be a little weak sometimes. However, all the equipment is available. Medical facilities are not up to the mark, and they provide minimum support in this aspect. There is a room for games and sports, where you can go and play whenever you are free. There are also teams for kabaddi, cricket, volleyball, etc. The transport facility is also good.
Faculty: All our faculty members are very highly educated and helpful. They clear doubts even in situations other than the course curriculum and provide us with additional information. Most part of the curriculum is relevant to the course except for some topics which do not match. The quality of teaching is very good here.
Other: I was always interested in creative and open fields like media and writing. So, I chose this course as it was a combination of both media and writing. Events and fests organised in our college are really fun to participate in.

GITAM isn't what it appears at first glance.
Placements: The school is fairly new and has not had a batch that graduated yet - my batch would be the first one. However, the staff are all well-connected in the media industry (for those pursuing a career in the field) and can provide students with internships and job opportunities if they prove that they are capable.
Infrastructure: The quality of infrastructure of the campus is quite good - the hostel is comfortable as well. The hostel wardens used to be really difficult but that has changed. In my experience, there wasn't a media lab available for us to work so the school hired equipment for the duration. The school promises that they are working on infrastructure but I have not seen progress on that front. The classrooms and building is all top-notch. They have a psychology lab for those who wish to pursue it.
Faculty: There is little to complain about the faculty. The teachers are all sweet and since my batch is a small group, we had the opportunity to get to know our teachers personally. I remember going for coffee with them, them showing me pictures of their babies, and simply having a good time discussing subjects in class. We have engaging debates in classrooms about interpretations of literature and about the politics behind it. It also helps to have a good rapport with the teachers in case you need help or feedback from them for classes. This has helped me more than once in some courses that I found challenging. However, the course can be structured better and modified to be more practical rather than theoretical. I think the college can work on practicals as a whole.
Other: I was lucky as I was granted a partial scholarship based on my merit - I have always been working hard at this course. The campus life here made me get out of my shell. I was an introverted kid in school and high school but I really got involved right from the get-go. There are lots of opportunities for students to engage in extra curricular as the student life team helps with that. Every B.A. student here joins the wave club. It is a fun platform for any kind of extracurricular stuff related to arts: debate, reading, writing/literary stuff, all that! We have a lot of fun in our sessions. It is an awesome place for personal growth, meeting friends, and making memories.

Is it really a place to grow? I say NO!
Placements: For my batch, we do not have placements and I hope my juniors get them at least. However, it is very doubtful. Every single time we ask our faculty about it, they just laugh it off and do not take it seriously and just say that they're working on it.
Infrastructure: The main library doesn't even have any books related to my subjects until we were behind our management and finally were able to get very limited books, 3 or 4 books. Inspite of us giving them a list of really good books and the ones that a library should have, they didn't consider it. Wi-Fi is so bad that only very few particular people get the connection.
Faculty: The faculty is then even better than the cousre and the condition of the University. They do teach us well but there's no point in it because we do not have our labs ready, though we are in our 3rd year, we didn't get that opportunity. For our elective subjects, other department faculty members come and teach us and that too, not seriously. So, in case a student took a different subject in the elective, they are asked to drop that off, which according to me, is not fair at all as every student's future matters!
Other: We do have fests and activities going on in campus. However, the sports arena is very bad, it lacks equipment and proper trainers.

Q:   Is it good to pursue BA in English literature?
    ShikshaGPT says
    A:
Hi Balaji, Once graduated in B. A. (Hons.) English literature, you could do your M.A. or an MBA. There are several higher study options for meritorious graduates in English language and literature, such as journalism and mass communication; management; tourism administration; law; international relations; linguistics; communication management; film editing and direction; visual communication; and library and information science and forms of creative arts like drama and cinema. You can explore the option of doing some specialised post graduate courses for which graduation is needed in the field of media, multimedia, public relations, foreign languages, teaching, social work, finance, retail, design, hospitality, stocks, aviation etc. based on your interests and strengths. If you have a flair for writing, have good communication skills and a reading habit, journalism or mass communication is a good choice. You could also opt for academic careers like teaching and research and particularly training. English language training is a big and growing sector in India with jobs freelance and full-time options as an English language trainer or a voice and accent trainer. English can also help in being a part of call centres, TV, Radio, reporting and also in the advertising industry. You can also work in an embassy. I hope it helps. Please feel free to revert. Wish you luck.
