IISER Pune Admission Overview 2026
Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research Pune admissions are entrance-based. The institute offers full-time BS-MS programme, PhD, Integrated PhD, International PhD and externally funded PhD programmes. The five-year BS-MS is the institute's flagship course. Earlier, IISER Pune used to give admissions to students through three channels: the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) channel, and the State and Central Boards channel. From 2024 onwards, though, admissions at IISER Pune are done strictly through the State and Central Boards channel only. In this, the applicants need to take the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT).

Selection Rounds
Admission to the BS-MS programme is now only through the State and Central Boards route through the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). The previous avenues, such as KVPY and JEE-Advanced, do not apply anymore. Students are shortlisted on the basis of their performance in IAT and their science marks at the Class 12 level.
Admission to the Integrated PhD and PhD is on specialisation-specific entrance examinations followed by interviews.
Merit List Release & Counselling
IISER Pune publishes the shortlisted candidates' merit list at the end of the selection rounds. Students have to participate in counselling to get admission. The seats will be filled in turns until all the seats are occupied.
