IISER Kolkata Admission: Application Process, Eligibility, Courses & Fee

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata offers five programmes, namely five-year BS-MS Dual Degree programme, MS in Space Physics, Integrated PhD, PhD and Postdoctoral Research programme) across seven departments.

The total annual fee for the MS in Space Physics programme offered by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata is INR 1.33 lakh.

Biological, Chemical, Geological, Mathematical and Physical Sciences are the specialisations available under the five-year BS-MS Dual Degree course at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata.

It should be noted that IISER admissions 2023 will be done through three channels- JEE Advanced, KVPY and IISER aptitude test. Thus, the authorities release a separate IAT merit list and cutoff marks 2023 for candidates applying through different channels of admission. The cutoff marks of IISER 2023 is the minimum marks/ranks that a candidate is required to obtain in order to get admission in any of the 7 participating institutes of the exam. The authorities release separate IISER 2023 cutoff for all the candidates applying through different channels for the admission. Candidates who score equal to or above the IISER cutoff 2023 will be eligible to participate in the counselling and seat allotment process.

To apply for the five-year BS-MS Dual Degree programme at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, candidates need to have passed Class 12 in any stream from a recognised board with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) along with JEE Advanced/ IISER Aptitude Test scores. The Round 1 closing rank for the BS-MS course stood at 403 for the General All India category student. So, considering the Round 1 and the Last Round closing rank for IISER Kolkata, candidates must secure a rank between 400 and 1805. Applicants must scored 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade for GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories and 55% for SC/ST/PWD in any recognised board. The required percentage is 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade for GEN/OBC/OBC-NCL and 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade for SC/ST/PWD in class XII or equivalent exam.

B.Sc or MBBS degree with at least 60% marks are eligible for admission. During the admission to Integrated Ph.D. program, the candidates with a valid score of any national common aptitude tests. 

Whereas, there are three channels for admission :

• Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Channel.
• Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology Channel.
• IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) Channel.

Hence, if a candidate has scored 60% in their class 12th, they can go for B.Sc in their graduation.

The candidates must have passed their 10+2 in science stream from a recognized board. The minimum aggregate marks required for admission to the BS-MS in Biological Sciences course at IISER Kolkata is 60% for GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories and 55% for SC/ST.

Students with a B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. or an equivalent degree from any recognized University/Institute/College in the branch of study as one of the honours/major subjects can apply for the MS in Biological Science course.

IISER Kolkata OBC cutoff 2025 for admission to the BS + MS course across multiple specialisations was 891 under the AI quota. For the B.S. in Computational and Data Sciences + M.S. in Computational and Data Sciences specialisation, the first-round closing rank stood at 417. During the first year, a student can only fail one course. A student is required to clear the backlog in the extra test, which will be held one year after the regular end-of-semester exam.

In the second year, a student can fail no more than one course and must pass the others.

Backlogs at the end of the Spring semester (within 10 days of the completion of the semester).
