IISER Kolkata Admission Process
IISER Kolkata admission is both entrance and merit-based. IISER Kolkata offers five courses in the field of Research, Science, and Technology at UG, PG, and doctoral level, namely a five-year BS-MS Dual Degree programme, MS in Space Physics, Integrated PhD, PhD and Postdoctoral Research programme across seven departments and five centres of excellence. In March/April, application forms for all programmes offered at IISER Kolkata are made available to the students through an online application process. Students are admitted to the BS-MS Dual Degree programme through the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), State and Central Boards Channel (SCB) via the IISER Aptitude Test, and JEE Advanced scores. On the other hand, IISER Kolkata conducts an interview round to shortlist candidates for various programmes (MS in Space Physics, I-PhD, PhD, and post-doctoral research). The spring semester begins in January and lasts until May, whereas the fall semester lasts from August to December.

Steps for IISER Kolkata Admission Process 2024
IISER Kolkata offers admission to courses based on entrance exam. Candidates who have received the provisional KVPY fellowship award are eligible to apply for admissions. Below are the steps to get a seat in IISER Kolkata:
STEP 1: IISER Kolkata Application Process 2024
Candidates need to apply online. Based on the channel of admission, they need to apply on the official website of the institute.
STEP 2: Selection
Admission in all IISERs is managed by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC). There are three channels for admission. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Channel Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology Channel IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) Channel.
STEP 3: Admission Confirmation
Once selected, aspirants need to pay a course fee to confirm their seat in the institute. They also need to submit specific documents for verification at the time of admission.

The candidates must have passed their 10+2 in science stream from a recognized board. The minimum aggregate marks required for admission to the BS-MS in Biological Sciences course at IISER Kolkata is 60% for GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories and 55% for SC/ST.
Students with a B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. or an equivalent degree from any recognized University/Institute/College in the branch of study as one of the honours/major subjects can apply for the MS in Biological Science course.
IISER Kolkata OBC cutoff 2025 for admission to the BS + MS course across multiple specialisations was 891 under the AI quota. During the first year, a student can only fail one course. A student is required to clear the backlog in the extra test, which will be held one year after the regular end-of-semester exam.
In the second year, a student can fail no more than one course and must pass the others.
