What is NIRF Engineering Ranking?
The National Institutional Ranking Framework, commonly known as NIRF, is a ranking framework introduced by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It ranks higher education institutions using a common methodology across different categories. Engineering is one of the categories under NIRF. The Engineering ranking allows students to compare participating engineering institutes based on factors such as teaching resources, research, graduation outcomes, outreach and perception.
The ranking is particularly useful for students comparing IITs, NITs, IIITs, government engineering colleges and other participating institutes.
NIRF Engineering Ranking 2026 Parameters
The NIRF Engineering Ranking is prepared using five broad parameters:
| Parameter |
Weightage |
|---|---|
| Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) |
30% |
| Research and Professional Practices (RPC) |
30% |
| Graduation Outcomes (GO) |
20% |
| Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) |
10% |
| Perception |
10% |
The final score is calculated using the prescribed NIRF methodology, after which participating institutes are ranked within the Engineering category.
