IIT Kanpur PhD Eligibility & Highlights 2024
IIT Kanpur offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme of three-year duration. IITK admission process for PhD programme is conducted twice a year, i.e., July and December. Admission to this programme may be made directly based on the scores obtained by the candidates in the entrance exam along with other factors. Candidates seeking admission to BS at IIT Kanpur must have a valid score in JEE Main, JEE Advanced and go through JoSAA counselling for final admission. Admission is completely entrance exam-based and candidates seeking admission can not get into IIT Kanpur with only the scores of JEE Main. JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counselling is the mandatory requirement. No, you can't get admission in IIT Kanpur with 60% in Class 12. The institute accepts students who have a minimum of 75% (for general category) in Class 12. Even for the reserved categories, the minimum score is 65%. Hence, 60% is not enough to get admission in IIT Kanpur UG courses.
No, IIT Kanpur admissions are not possible without JEE scores if the students wants to join BTech or BSc courses. For both courses, JEE Main is mandatory. Also, for BTech admissions, students also need to appear for the JEE Advanced exam.

- After the application process is over; students have to go through various selection rounds for final admission. The institute considers the merit of the candidates for MBA and PhD admission.
- For BTech, MDes, MSc, BSc and MTech courses, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM CEED and GATE scores are considered for the selection of candidates.
- Additionally, admission to PhD and MS by Research is based on UGC NET/ CSIR NET and other national-level exam scores.
- After the exams, JoSAA, COAP and CCMN Counselling are conducted for seat allotment to BTech, M.Tech and MSc courses. However, a merit list is released by the institute for announcing the names of the candidates shortlisted for certificate, PhD and MS by Research courses followed by a counselling round. Candidates need to pay the admission fee to confirm their admission.
In order to apply for BS at IIT Kanpur, candidates are required to go through the official application of JEE Main followed by applying for JEE Advanced. IIT Kanpur PhD Admission Process 2024
IIT Kanpur PhD application process is conducted in both online and offline modes. Interested students can visit the official website of IIT Kanpur PG admission, i.e. https://iitk.ac.in/doaa/pgadmission/ and click on ‘Important Links’ followed by the application form filling and online payment of application fee. Additionally, students can also download the application form from the above process and submit the filled form offline. Those willing to apply for more than one course must fill up separate application forms for each programme.
The application fee is INR 500 for General, EWS, OBC and OBC-NCL candidates and INR 250 for SC/ ST and all DAP candidates. However, the application fee is waived for candidates in the 'Foreign National' category.
NOTE: PhD applicants must arrange for two letters of reference as well. For this, the names of the referees along with their e-mail ids must be disclosed by the candidate at the online applications portal. The referees will be contacted electronically through an auto-generated mail with a request to submit their recommendations online.

IIT Kanpur BSc seat reservation is prescribed by the Board of Governors subject to the policy formulated from time to time by the Government of India. The seats are reserved for the SC, ST, OBC (Not belonging to Creamy Layer) and PwD (Person with Disability) category candidates.
IIT Kanpur only offers merit-based admission for all the courses. The institute accepts JEE Advanced scores for admission to BTech. Candidates need to pass JEE Main exam prior to appearing for JEE Advanced. Apart from its flagship programme, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kanpur) offers BSc, BS, MTech, MSc, MDes, MBA, along with a few Dual Degree programmes. So, to secure a seat in IIT Kanpur, candidates must secure more than 900 for General AI category.
