BHU PhD Eligibility & Highlights 2025
BHU PhD course duration varies based on the selected course specialisation. It usually range from two to six years. All admissions to PhD programmes at Banaras Hindu University shall be through a national-level Research Eligibility Test (RET). So as to identify the scholastic capabilities and aptitude for research, there are three levels of this test as mentioned below:
- Test A: To assess Logical and Analytical Capability
- Test B: To assess Subject Knowledge Test
- Test C: Research proposal and Personal Interview to test aptitude for research
Tests A and B take place on a single day at multiple centres across the country while Test C will take place at BHU in the concerned Department/School/Centre. Candidates who are exempted from appearing for Tests A and B (RET-exempt category), but would be required to qualify the Test C to become eligible for registration for PhD.

BHU cutoff 2025 was released for multiple specialisations. Based on the last round cutoff, the closing ranks varied between 1489 and 14447 for the General AI quota. So, if you belong to the General category, you must target a JEE Advanced cutoff rank of up to 14447 or below to secure a seat at IIT BHU for BTech admission. For top branches like CSE and Mathematics and Computing, the maximum required cutoff ranks for admission were 1489 and 1924 in the last round.

Yes, Banaras Hindu University accept CUET score for multiple UG courses, including BA (Hons), BCom (Hons) BSc (Hons), etc. The university is also offering admission to its PG courses based on merit in CUET-PG. Aspirants who meet the eligibility requirements can register on the BHU admission portal for counselling. The admission is done in order of merit based on the normalised score of the CUET (PG) and reservation policy as per the provisions laid down in the BHU PET Information Brochure.

Candidates may not be allowed to apply for another course at BHU in the next year. Aspirants may not be allowed to pursue two degree courses at the same time. The applications can be accepted for Banaras Hindu University Diploma or certificate courses. Students must cancel admission in the running course before applying for another course.
To apply for scholarships, candidates must go to the Grants & Scholarship Portal of BHU.

BHU accepts CUET scores for admission to UG and PG courses. The admissions are over within few weeks of CUET counselling. CUET-PG is usually held in March whereas CUET-UG takes place in May. No, candidates cannot get direct admission in BHU for UG and PG courses. The university strictly offers entrance-based admission. It accepts entrance exams such as:

Banaras Hindu University course admissions is entrance-based for most of the programmes. Fresh applications for Class 9 to 12 can be submitted until 21 September 2026. Renewal applications for the same classes close earlier, on 25 August 2026. Dashmottar students have separate deadlines in October 2026.
