IIT Kanpur also offers an option of a dual degree, i.e., Bachelors-Masters Dual Degree, to the students. A student earns both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at the end of this five-year course. The dual degree programme has three categories:
- Category A: In this case, both degrees are in the same discipline/department. Example: BTech-M Tech.
- Category B: This is a two-discipline/ department programme where the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is in a different discipline/ department. Thus, three combinations are possible in this category, ex: BTech-M Tech, BTech-MS and BTech-MDes. Students can choose any one of the aforementioned combinations.
- Category C: In this case, the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is MBA. Ex: BTech-MBA.

For admission to the IIT Kanpur BTech programme, qualifying JEE Main is mandatory to become eligible for JEE Advanced. Only candidates who clear JEE Advanced can be considered for BTech admission at IIT Kanpur through JoSAA counselling.
Admission to the BTech programme at IIT Kanpur is entrance exam-based, i.e., based on JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced scores. IIT Kanpur BTech fee 2026 include a one-time refundable payment of INR 31,200 at admission as admission fee and security deposit. Semester-wise payable fee for GEN/OBC/EWS, SC/ST/PwD, and MEB categories is INR 21,860, while students under the OEB category pay INR 55,193 per semester due to a higher tuition component. In addition, an annual fee of INR 3,100 is charged towards gymkhana activities, festivals, and health insurance. Overall, total first-year fee amounts to INR 56,160 for most categories and INR 89,493 for OEB candidates. IIT Kanpur BTech Admission Dates 2026
For IIT Kanpur BTech admission, students need to follow the national entrance exam schedule in early 2026. The JEE Main 2026 exam will be held in two sessions. Session 1 from January 21 to 30, 2026 and Session 2 from April 2 to 9, 2026. Registration and application deadlines are in late 2025. Candidates who qualify in JEE Main are eligible to register for JEE Advanced 2026, with registrations typically open in April 23 to May 2, 2026, and the JEE Advanced exam scheduled on May 17, 2026. Admission to the BTech programme is completely entrance exam-based, i.e., based on JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced scores. Candidates seeking admission to BTech can not get admission to IIT Kanpur with only the scores of JEE Main. No, you can't get admission in IIT Kanpur with 60% in Class 12. The institute accepts students who have a minimum of 75% (for general category) in Class 12. Even for the reserved categories, the minimum score is 65%. Hence, 60% is not enough to get admission in IIT Kanpur UG courses.
