Because of this, many BA students choose to study further instead of taking a job.

Q:   Symbiosis College or Modern College, which college is better for BA?
    A:

When choosing between the two for a BA, Symbiosis College is generally the better option if candidates want elite brand value, premium infrastructure, and stronger corporate placement opportunities, though its fees are much higher. Modern College is an excellent choice if candidates are looking for an affordable, government-aided programme with heavily subsidised fees and direct access to state scholarship schemes. Symbiosis offers a more globally diverse campus life, whereas Modern College provides a traditional academic setup which is excellent for students focusing on self-study or competitive exams. At the end, Symbiosis stands out in career networking and placements, while Modern College wins on budget and cost-effectiveness.

Well-rounded psychology program with great faculty and campus life.
Placements: I graduated in 2025 with a B.A. in psychology. Around 80-85% of my batch got placed. The highest package was 7 lacs per annum. The average is 4 lacs per annum. The recruiter included Fortis, Mind Pears, etc. Many students also interned at hospital NGOs and therapy centers. Common roles for psychology like intern, HR, trainee, and clinical assistant. The college and faculty offered decent placement support.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are clean. They have projectors. We had a functional psychology lab and access to books in the library. Wi-Fi worked across the campus. The hostel is decent. The mess food is hygienic and medical help was nearby. Sports facilities and common areas were also available.
Faculty: Our faculty members are helpful and highly qualified. Most professors had M.Phil and Ph.Ds. They taught through real-life examples. The curriculum covered clinical social counseling psychology and research. It felt relevant and job-oriented. Semester exam for fair and mostly based on lectures. The pass rate was high and support during the exam was strong.
Other: The campus vibe was energetic. Fests like cultural events and active student clubs made it fun full stop the crowd was friendly and transport connectivity was great. Scholarship were available. I wish there were more workshops or field visits but over it was a great experience.

Good infrastructure and teaching quality are the best.
Placements: About 40%. There are so many students who want to take Economics, but there are limited seats. For recruitment, I think you can go to the banking or government sector. The role/post is the same in the bank and government sector according to your capabilities. I'm not sure about the package, and an internship was compulsory to graduate. The college didn't offer any internships, we had to find them ourselves, and I did my internship at a bank.
Infrastructure: The classrooms at my college were very good, and the college didn't provide Wi-Fi to their students. As I was an art student, I didn't get to see the labs, but I heard they were also good. The library is really fantastic for book lovers, and the study area is also nice there.
Faculty: Teachers were really helpful and well-qualified. They made us understand everything with real-life examples or activities, and they didn’t complain when we cleared any doubt. Economics is related to finance, so it makes students ready. Exams were 50% tough and 50% easy.
Other: I want to crack the UPSC exam, and I chose B.A. because it helps you cover at least 30% of the UPSC syllabus. In the first year, you have to study all subjects, and if you don't know what your interest is, you can find it in the first year, as I did. I came from a commerce background, and I chose Economics mainly based on my own interest in the subject. The best thing about it is that you get to learn about the financial system, economic conditions, and the budget—all these things about our nation. I wish the college had also provided us with placement or internship opportunities, as it would have been very useful. The college arranges a lot of events, creative activities, and competitions, as well as various camps for NCC and NSS students. Each year, their departments arrange fests, and we arrange the Economics fest, named Ecothon, with the help of our teachers and seniors. I got the Mahadbt study scholarship for 3 years.

Average college, decent teachers, but not much in the flavour of events.
Placements: B.A. students do not get college placements, but the Modern College psychology department helped many of us with getting a good internship. Internships were unpaid, but I personally learned a lot, from assessing children to interpersonal and managerial skills. After completing the degree, most of my batchmates are now pursuing Masters in psychology.
Infrastructure: The main requirement for any psychology student is cubicles with sufficient testing and experiential apparatus, and Modern College has that. It's not top-class, but definitely above average. We have a canteen in college, and the food there is decent. I don't know about the hostel in detail as I lived in a PG, but according to my friends, the hostel is average and hard to get.
Faculty: Most of the teachers were helpful and knowledgeable; they guided us in all the events. The curriculum is good; it gives a decent idea about various branches and schools of psychology, but not in depth as they cover more topics. This style of curriculum is really great for cracking the entrance exams and getting the basic knowledge of everything about psychology. Exams were moderate.
Other: You don't get a campus in Modern like that of Fergusson or SPPU; it's just buildings and buildings. But the psychology course at Modern is definitely among the top 5 in Pune.

Absolutely dissatisfied with the staff .
Placements: Still not placed in any company but have heard about placements from various departments and are probably good in that sense. Students are made industry-ready by their teachers. I can't explain that much about placements, but they're good.
Infrastructure: Library, Wi-Fi is available but only works during exams, labs are in good condition and a gym is available. There are two canteens: one for juniors and one specifically for the engineering department, which is not open to anyone else.
Faculty: Teachers are probably friendly, but not all of them are cooperative. They are qualified, and the quality of their teaching is good. Yes this course is relevant and makes students industry ready. Semester exams are pretty hard, but they make us ready for more difficult exams.
Other: I wanted to experience college life without any attendance problems, but yes, 75% of attendance is compulsory. So far, campus is good, but no one is allowed to just relax on campus. The guards just push you out of the college.

Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Progressive Education Society BA FAQs

Q:   Can I get direct admission in Modern College BA?
    A:

No, you cannot get direct admission to the BA programme at Modern College. The college follows a structured online merit system for all admissions. Every general category applicant must fill out an online merit form through the Vriddhi portal, and seats are given out in order based on Class 12 marks.

The only exception where the standard online merit lists can be avoided involves a specific preference system or institutional seats. For instance, in-house students who completed their Class 12 studies directly at Modern College receives first preference during the initial seat allocation rounds. Additionally, if any seats remain vacant after the online rounds are completed, the college might start an on-campus offline counselling round where remaining spots are filled quickly on the spot.

Q:   How many specialisations are offered at Modern College for BA course?
    A:

Modern College offers 10 specialisation in its courses such as Economics, Geography, Psychology, English, History, Political Science, Sociology, Music, and languages like Marathi, Hindi and German. In the overall Modern College BA specialisations, Psychology is one of the Highly competitive major which has an intake limited to 48 seats.

Q:   What is the eligible crietria for BA at Modern College?
    A:

Eligibility is open to any candidate who has successfully completed their high school education. Applicants must have passed their Class 12 examination from a recognised national or state board. The college accepts students from all academic backgrounds including, Arts, Science, and Commerce, as long as English was a passing subject in their qualifying exam. Selection does not involve an entrance test and is based entirely on the aggregate percentage of Class 12. However, higher scores are typically necessary for competitive specializations like Psychology due to limited seats.

Q:   Vriddhi Online or Modern College website, where should I apply for admission?
    A:

Applicants must use both portals, as they work together to complete the admission process. First, the candidates need to visit the official Modern College website to read active admission notices and access the registration links. From there, they will be directed to the Vriddhi Online Portal, which is the website used to manage applications. On Vriddhi, students register, generate a login ID, fill out the merit form, and upload required documents. Once the application is verified and approved by the administration, the online fee payment gateway will be activated inside the student's Vriddhi dashboard.

Q:   Does Modern College provide any scholarship?
    A:

No, Modern College does not provide internal scholarships. Instead, it helps students get government scholarships. Because the college is affialiated with Savitribai Phule Pune University, eligible students can apply for regular state and central government financial aid. Students belonging to reserved categories (such as SC, ST, OBC, and NT) can get their tuition and exam fees waived through government portals. Also, students from low-income families can get a discount on fees through the EBC scheme once the college verifies their admission on campus.

Q:   Since Modern College is a private institute, so how its BA course fees is so affordable?
    A:

While Modern College is a private institute run by the Progressive Education Society, it works as a government-aided private college for traditional courses like BA. This means the college receives financial grants and salary support from the government of Maharashtra, allowing them to keep the base tuition fees heavily subsidized and budget-friendly for regular divisions. Additionally, because the college is permanently affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), it strictly follows the university and state-regulated fee structures rather than charging private rates.
