    On Admissions
Q:   What entrance exam scores does NMIMS School of Design accept for admission to B.Des?
    A:

Q:   How many students can do B.Des at NMIMS School of Design?
    A:

As the B.des is through a selection process of Dat test and then the students get selected there are only 30 seats in the college for b.des which came through a selection process which contains three task studio test portfolio review and personal interview then only students get selected

Q:   What are the cutoff marks required for B.Des?
    A:

Here are some details regarding B.Des cutoffs:-

    • For top design colleges like NIFT and NID, cutoffs are extremely high and competition is very tough. NIFT typically requires a minimum of 80-90%ile score in the entrance exam for shortlisting.
    • Other leading design institutes affiliated with universities have cutoffs in the range of 50-60%ile scores in qualifying design aptitude tests.
    • Colleges accept either merit scores in relevant design entrance tests like NID DAT, NIFT MAT, or marks in 12th board exams. Cutoffs in 12th boards are usually set at 50% to 60% for general category applicants.

Additionally, many colleges conduct their own entrance tests, interviews, or portfolio reviews to assess applicant's creativity and interest in the field. The final admission offer is given based on a composite assessment across these parameters.

So in summary, while the most prestigious design programs are intensely competitive, other relatively newer institutes are more realistic with 50-60% + cutoffs either in entrance exams or 12th boards.

    A Complete Design Learning Experience.
Placements: Almost 100% of us have secured internships from our college, with many of us receiving PPOs from companies. The common roles offered to us are those of UI/UX Designers and Product Designers. The curriculum includes an accredited industry internship module in the final year, providing valuable industry exposure and hands-on experience as part of the course.
Infrastructure: The college is located on the 6th floor of the UPG College. The facilities include all the basic amenities required by designers, including a workshop with a variety of machines, including 3D printers, a laser cutter, and a variety of tools. We also have a dedicated user testing lab to test our design. We have access to the NMIMS Library and all the canteens located in the NMIMS and Mithibai campus.
Faculty: The college had a good mix of internal faculty members as well as external faculty members who brought professional industry experience and had great content knowledge. The college also arranged external speaker sessions, some of which were highly insightful. The curriculum included all the aspects of design, right from research to conceptualization to user testing the final design with users. We were also taught the design registration process and how to protect our designs through IPs and copyrights. Lastly, we were also taught the business aspect of design, focusing on marketing and selling our design.
Other: The course is really good for aspiring designers, particularly those focused on UI/UX and product. The two foundation years taught us every skill required for designers, including photography, videography, and also basic coding. The third year provided us with opportunities to create many portfolio-worthy projects.

    SOD - Potential for Improvement.
Placements: A few of our seniors were placed at companies like Walmart and Deloitte with great top-paying packages. I haven't met most of my seniors due to both of us being busy with our own projects. The new batch is set to complete their capstone soon, and after they graduate, they will start looking for placements.
Infrastructure: The facilities are pretty decent; they're kept clean and tidy when we aren't working. While there are many facilities, there are usually extensive procedures when gaining access to them, and lots of people's permission is required. If the faculty isn't present and doesn't regularly check the mail, there may be delays in projects. This is mainly for our Builder's Sanctum, 3D printers, UT Labs, and any tools.
Faculty: While the course has some interesting topics, not enough time is given to properly flesh them out, especially the topics related to software skills. The modules are very short, and we aren't able to expand our learning in class. There are a few faculty members who are good at their job but not too skilled at teaching it. Finding faculty who are also equipped to teach will help progress our learning further.
Other: I chose this course because it has a bit of everything, and I wanted to see what I could become good at and where my interests lie. The course is a bit exhausting, so you aren't given any time for extracurricular activities. The time management of this course could be improved, with a bit more communication between students and faculty relating to assignments and a bit more preparedness when it comes to a few of the faculty. Mithibhai College has a lot of events that you could attend. Our course has some seminars from good companies, though they usually schedule the seminars after a long day of college, so most of us are too exhausted to pay attention.

    Absolutely satisfied with the faculty.
Placements: In our class, we have a total of 40 students. The average annual package for our senior students this year was 12 Lacs. DELL emerged as the top recruiting company. A significant 60 percent of our third-year students secured internships in renowned companies. The highest position offered to our students was that of junior product designers.
Infrastructure: The college offers complimentary Wi-Fi access to all students, and classrooms are equipped with smartboards to enhance our learning experience. Additionally, there is a library where we can borrow books. The hostel where I reside provides excellent accommodation with amenities such as three meals a day, free Wi-Fi, and laundry services. Moreover, the menu at the hostel changes on a weekly basis.
Faculty: Our faculty is extremely supportive, and the majority of our instructors possess practical industry knowledge, which allows them to offer valuable insights. We adhere to the principle of learning by doing, and if you approach your assignments, deadlines, and faculty with honesty, the semester exams can be relatively straightforward.
Other: I selected this course because design offers a wide range of fields to explore and learn about, allowing you to make informed decisions about your future path. However, I do wish that internships were available in the first and second years of the course. Additionally, college events typically occur in January and February.

Love the curriculum and practical experience NMIMS School of Design offers!
Placements: The graduation batches of 2018–2022 achieved a remarkable 100% placement rate with an impressive stipend of Rs 80,000. Top companies like Deloitte, Axis Bank, PwC, and many more are annual top recruiters. The course emphasizes placements and internships, preparing us students for industrial experience. Based on the trend I have observed, most students tend towards UI/UX by the end of the course.
Infrastructure: The NMIMS SOD campus is on the 6th floor of the Mithibai Building and has proper Wi-Fi, clean washrooms, and labs, along with 3D printing facilities. The classrooms are adequately equipped with locker facilities and smartboards. Design schools are generally hectic, and until 7-8 p.m., we are in college, making the campus our second home. I haven't used hostel services so far.
Faculty: The faculty is highly qualified and helpful. At SOD, we address our faculty as mentors since they guide and provide feedback throughout our entire process. However, the implementation of that feedback is left up to the students to explore various things. The course curriculum is excellent, providing us with extensive learning opportunities. Term-end examinations (TEE) at the end of each semester involve submissions, with no written exams.
Other: I chose this course solely due to its unique and practical curriculum. I don't think any other design school offers such an extensive curriculum as the NMIMS School of Design.

    NMIMS SOD - Opportunity awaits.
Placements: In 2023, NMIMS SOD marked a significant milestone by attaining a remarkable 100 percent placement rate. This outstanding achievement underscores the institution's commitment to providing students with jobs after their graduation. The highest package was 20 LPA, showcasing the talent the school helps cultivate and nurture. The average placement package stood at a commendable 10.8 LPA, reflecting the high standards of professionals that SOD helps create.
Infrastructure: NMIMS SOD has Wi-Fi that works throughout the premises (although certain websites like Pinterest and Instagram are blocked). There are labs for workshop activities like woodworking with power tools and state-of-the-art machinery. There is a tinkering lab for the use of 3D printing and laser engraving machines. Our library has an OPAC system that lets us view the items that are available to us and those books that we can request from other NMIMS universities, free of charge. The classrooms are air-conditioned but do not get great sunlight. There are canteens on nearly every floor of the 9-story Mithibai Building where the School of Design is situated, which makes the availability of food and refreshments great.
Faculty: The teachers for all modules are skilled and proficient in their respective fields of study. You can find great mentors and personalities here who have achieved great feats in academia and the corporate world, making a name for themselves. They have a reputation for being strict about grades to bring out the best in you. The course curriculum gives you a great look at all creative fields linked to design in the first two foundation years so that you are better equipped to choose major/specializations in your third year here.
Other: I chose this course because it will help me mold into a more rounded designer who knows about the various fields and professions he will have to work in, and also because Mumbai is the land of opportunity for a Design student to find important industry contacts and make professional relations.

    A great learning experience.
Placements: NMIMS SOD has a 100% placement rate with an average salary of 6LPA. The highest salary even goes up to 20.8LPA. Recruiters like Walmart, JCB, Parallax, Axis Bank, EY, Deloitte, etc., and many other startups show keen interest in hiring students from NMIMS School Of Design.
Infrastructure: Our college provides various resources like a library, 3D printers, laser cutters, etc. A well-stocked workshop with different tools is provided, which is very useful for working on new projects and assignments. There is also a variety of food options available throughout our campus. Within a 2km radius, there are many good hostels and guest houses available for outstation students.
Faculty: Our college has a unique curriculum that follows a modules-based learning approach, where students learn and develop skills by doing. The curriculum is designed to teach students different skills such as product design, UI & UX design, interaction design, IoT, VR, coding, etc. The faculty is highly qualified and approachable. They are always ready to mentor. Exams follow a jury-based approach in which a student has to present their work in front of the jury members, and they evaluate the projects based on the merit of the assessment criteria.
