Candidates seeking admission to B.Des through UCEED 2027 must meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, which include the no. of attempts, age limit, qualifying exam, minimum marks, etc. If a candidate fails to meet these criteria, then they can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process. UCEED 2027 Eligibility Criteria  

The candidate needs to meet the following eligibility criteria to appear for UCEED 2027.

  1. Age limit - The candidate must be born on or after October 1, 2002. Relaxation in the upper age limit of 5 years applies to candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories. 
  2. Number of attempts - A candidate is allowed to take the UCEED exam a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.
  3. Qualifying exam - The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying exam (10+2 or equivalent) in 2025 or should be appearing in the qualifying exam for the first time in 2027. Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying for the first time in 2025 or earlier are not eligible.

To be eligible to apply for B.Des programme through UCEED, candidates should have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects in 10+2. 

Q:   I am from Biology background, in which IITs can I apply for B.Des programme?
A: 

If you have biology as a subject in 10+2, then you can apply for B.Des programme at IIITDM Jabalpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore.

To apply at IIITDM, you need to have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology subjects in 10+2.

Q:   Which academic stream should I have studied in Class 12 to be eligible for UCEED exam?
A: 

Candidates from any academic stream are eligible to apply for UCEED exam. However, for admission to IIT Guwahati, it is mandatory for candidates to have passed Class 12 from Science stream. The candidate needs to carefully go through the eligibility criteria before they apply. This is because the candidate will not be considered for admission to the B. Des programme even if they get a rank in UCEED if they don't meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. Also, any candidate who is found to be using incorrect information about their eligibility stands to be disqualified if caught.

Q:   Do I need to qualify Part A to be included in the UCEED 2026 merit list?
A: 

Note that the Part B answer booklet will be evaluated only if the candidate qualifies Part A. Further, only such candidates who have qualified Part A will be shortlisted and allocated a merit rank. 

This means if the candidates fails to qualify Part A of UCEED 2026, they will not be issued any merit ranks. The scorecards of such candidates will merely includes Part A scores. In contrast, the screcards of shortlisted will include a merit rank, total and sectional scores. Further, all shortlisted candidates will be eligible to participate in UCEED 2026 and seat allotment.

Institute-specific Eligibility Criteria for Admission to B.Des course through UCEED 2027

Apart from the eligibility criteria mentioned above, the participating institutes have their own eligibility conditions, given below.

  • Candidates from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are eligible to apply to all the participating institutes.
  • Candidates from any other stream (Science without Mathematics or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible to apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Hyderabad.
  • For admission to BDes at IIITDM Jabalpur, only students with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology at 10+2 are eligible.
  • Students from Arts or Humanities at 10+2 are not eligible to apply for BDes admissions at IIITDM Jabalpur.

UCEED 2027: List of Qualifying Exams

Candidates can go through the list of qualifying exams that are accepted as part of UCEED eligibility criteria 2027 in the table below:

Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

HSC vocational examination.

A Diploma recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (www.aicte-india.org) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.

General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.

In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.

The candidates appearing for their qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2026 should ensure the following:

  • All parts of their final examination are completed by the date of application for admission. However, in exceptional cases where the qualifying examination is expected
    to be held after the date of application for admission, candidates must contact UCEED office by email addressed to UCEED.
  • Proof of having passed the qualifying examination with required eligibility is submitted by September 30, 2026 to the admitting institute.
  • If a qualifying Examination Board awards only letter grades without providing information on the passing grade on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the passing grade and upload it along with the grade sheet. In case such a certificate is not provided, the decision taken by the UCI Committee will be final.
  • The criteria, as specified above, are applicable “in toto” to all the applicants, including foreign nationals. Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary, with a cap of
    10% of the total seats in a program. Applications from foreign nationals holding OCI/PIO cards issued BEFORE 4th March 2022 are only considered under the OPEN category. They are outside the ambit of seat reservation under the EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories.

The admission cut-off for Round I of UCEED 2026 was released on April 21, 2026.

This will be followed by the 2nd allotment on May 19, 2026. UCEED 3rd round of allotment will be declared on June 10, 2026.

Q:   Who can participate in UCEED counseling?

The counseling process for UCEED 2026 will be conducted by IIT Bombay as a Joint Seat Allocation process.

To participate in UCEED 2026 counseling, the candidate must have qualfied in the UCEED 2026 entrance exam and been allocated a merit rank.

This means, if the candidate has failed to qualify Part A exam, he or she will not be allocated a merit rank, and therefore are not eligible to take part in the counseling process.

UCEED 2027 Reservation Criteria

The category-wise reservation of seats in UCEED 2027 is given in the table below:

Both institutions offer the BDes course but with completely different admission processes. IIT Indore accepts admission based on the UCEED entrance exam, while BITS Pilani considers the NID Entrance exam/ BITSAT exam result.

No, you cannot get into IIT Bombay with a UCEED cutoff rank of 20 for the BDes course. IIT Bombay 2026 admission closed at a cutoff rank of 14 for B.Des in the General category under the AI quota. Hence, candidates must target a lower cutoff rank than 2020 to secure a B.Des seat at this college.

No, students can not get admission in Symbiosis Institute of Design Nagpur with UCEED scores. The institute conducts its own entrance exam. Students must appear for the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design - SEEED instead.
