Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics Announces India’s First Dual-degree Master’s in Economics in Collaboration with Virginia Polytechnique Institute

February 8, 2023: Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics at SVKM, part of NMIMS, is excited to launch a new dual degree programme with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). A Master of Science in Economics is available through the dual degree programme agreement, which was signed on December 10, 2022. One year is spent at NMIMS and the other at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, in the United States.
This program's goal is to give students a thorough understanding of the various branches of economics as well as the skills to create and evaluate economic models utilising high-end software and cutting-edge data methodologies. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on hands-on, skill-based learning and is created to satisfy the needs of the modern business, government, and academic sectors. As well as more research-focused occupations requiring strong analytical and quantitative skills, it will prepare students for careers in consulting, the gig economy, and finance. Additionally, students will have the option to pursue a PhD at Virginia Tech or other universities in the US or abroad.
By offering students an affordable education in two places, the programme capitalises on the comparative advantages of the two universities and prepares students for the global workforce. Students will study the fundamentals of economics during their time at NMIMS, and they will learn about financial institutions, managerial economics, behavioural economics, big data economics, and behavioural economics during their time at Virginia Tech. Additionally, qualifying students will have access to the whole selection of Economics PhD courses Virginia Tech offers.
Students who successfully complete the dual degree programme will be awarded an M.Sc. in Economics from NMIMS and an MA in Economics from Virginia Tech. Additionally, Virginia Tech is working to get a STEM certification for its Master's in Economics programme, which will enable foreign students to participate in optional practical training for three years after earning their degree.
This innovative new programme offers students a special chance to strengthen their analytical and communication abilities while gaining a thorough understanding of economics. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to become fully immersed in another culture and acquire priceless global experience that will help them excel in their professions and prepare them for the global job market.
