At UEM, we became trend-setters, says Apabrita Biswas
Though I always wanted to take up Engineering as a career by choice, but had always heard Engineering students worried about placements and employment. However, I had a different experience altogether.
While searching for colleges, I got to know about University of Engineering and Management, Jaipur. I saw the past record of the Group College (IEM Kolkata) which was very positive. As per many alumni, the college enables numerous opportunities for the students to show their skills and helps them nurture even further in every aspect, whether it is project, science exhibitions, talent search examinations, robot manufacturing, building a racing car and lots more. When I saw the Faculty list, they were all IITians and academicians with Doctorate and PhD.
I still remember the initial days at UEM, Jaipur when it was a new University and we were the second batch. We kept complaining about infrastructure, labs, resources, facilities, etc. when Prof. Dr. Biswajoy Chatterjee very patiently calmed us down and instilled upon us the real meaning of Engineering. We were in our first year then when he told us, "My dear students, you all are engineers. You all are makers. You have all the potential in this world to create your own resources. I will always be there by you to guide you."
And thus, we became 'trend-setters' and not 'trend-followers'.
Within all these complaints we were always kept busy. There was no idle mind to construct devils workshop. Since our workshops were for Robotics workshop, building racing cars for national competitions, building India’s cheapest PCB fabrication machine, building Micro Human Walker made in 3D printers, smart door lock and many more. I can write till the page fills up.
UEM, Jaipur taught us to believe in ourselves so that we were confident enough to see that cracking a job was easier to us than the things we already accomplished while in University. However, like Professor had promised, UEM, Jaipur (even after making us confident and self-dependent) never failed to be by our side through their guidance and this is evident from the placement records that UEM, Jaipur is continuing to present.
