I cracked the college entrance test, i.e., UPESEAT, and secured a decent rank for pursuing Petroleum Engineering. I visited the campus and was mesmerised by the beauty and the facilities offered by the college. I prepared for national papers as well for which I joined a coaching institute. The best thing about University of Petroleum and Energy Studies [UPES] is that it prepares you for various competitive exams, besides the regular college exams, which helps you measure your preparation

I scored quite well in Class 10, but at that particular time, I was not sure about which stream to pursue. I faced difficulty with Mathematics, although I enjoyed the algebraic part of it. I consulted my teachers and parents and they advised me to take the Science-Mathematics stream as the career options are vast in this particular field. So that’s how I zeroed in on my choice of subjects for class 11. During that time, I was fairly attracted to Computer Science as Coding fascinated me a lot. I just loved the way logic worked in Coding. But after completing Class 12, I realised I was equally fascinated with the petroleum industry. I decided to opt for UPES Dehradun as it is considered one of the best universities for engineering, particularly for this domain. I feel I have made the right choice and this will give me a chance to actually rise above the rest.

Before I joined UPES, I took coaching classes and tried for JEE as well. I was offered a scholarship by SRM University, Chennai, and Graphic Era University, Dehradun, but once I came across UPES Dehradun it was easy to make up my mind. I was convinced that I wanted to join this university.

My college life is pretty good although I never got a chance to visit the tourist spots in and around Dehradun. However, my college social life so far has been well worth the time. Every semester we have different subjects and attending all classes is necessary because of the strict attendance policy of the university. I am currently part of our Dramatics Society and serving as Operational Head of Paradigm Revived, a student club. I have anchored various college events and functions. I was also a part of the organising committee for Freshers’ Party 2019. My college life is almost over, at least for the Bachelor’s degree, so right now I do not have any plans to engage in other activities. But I still nurture the desire to visit the campus once more and have the delicious snacks at the cafeteria. I want to travel to all the places I couldn’t earlier for various reasons. I want to have birthday celebrations with my friends again. I learned so much about writing scripts in the last few years and want to make another web series for my society Paradigm Revived. But looking at the current scenario I don’t think it will be possible anytime in the near future. By the time everything is back to normal, we would’ve all graduated. But that does not mean that my university stint has been non-productive. I have become a better person and have learned the importance of teamwork and self-discipline. The most important learning I have gained is that whether alone or with friends, college life is full of fun.

No, JEE Main is not mandatory for UPES Dehradun BTech admission. While the university accepts the scores of the exam, it is not the only accepted exam. Students can also submit scores of UPESEAT/ SAT India/ CUET exams for BTech admission.
