NAAC accreditation

Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra has been awarded B++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) after a gap of 13 years.

The university was last accredited by NAAC in 2004 with a B grade. In the new accreditation, the university has been given a B++, which is an enhanced ranking.

Talking about the accreditation University vice chancellor (VC), Arvind Kumar Dixit told a leading daily, “The cooperation of university administration, teachers, employees and students has resulted in this improved grade. It will now be counted among the top institutions in the state. Our aim is to make the varsity an A grade institute.”

B++ grade will make the university eligible for more grants from the University Grants Commission. The UGC grants fund to university and institutes for upgradation and introduction of academic as well as infrastructural facilities on the basis of NAAC grades.

Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University was the top scorer with cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.79 out of 4, among 27 state universities which applied for accreditation.

The NAAC team surveyed the varsity from April 24-26 and assessed its curriculum, research and innovation work, finance and administration efficiency, infrastructure, sports facilities, placement assistance and residential institutions. The team also interacted with the university students, officials and staff.

NAAC rates institutes on multiple basis. The four categories - A, B, C and D denote very good, good, satisfactory and unsatisfactory levels respectively. These categories are further divided into sub-categories and graded according to CGPA scores out of 4. For example, institute scoring 3.01 – 3.50 CGPA gets A grade, 3.51 - 3.75 CGPA gets an A+, and those which score 3.76 – 4.00 CGPA get A++ grade.
