Q: Delhi University allowed all affiliated colleges to reopen its campus last week. What all preparations were done by Rajdhani College to welcome students back to campus amid COVID-19?
A. We had sent Google forms to students for getting their parents’ consent. The form includes information like their vaccination status, their mode of transportation and other information that needs to be filled and has to be duly signed by the parent. In case a student has not received even a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, we have asked them to get it done from nearby Shivaji college where vaccines are being administered. We have also installed sanitizing machine inside the college and we have also got gloves and face masks for students in case they forget to bring.
We were fully geared up and have also formed a task force for the reopening of the college. Though the campus has been reopened for practical classes for final-year students, the online classes are still being conducted for all other students.
Q. Is college providing any digital devices to students?
A. We have different active students’ groups and we have asked them if anyone requires any help, like data pack or mobile recharge to attend the classes, they can contact us. We have also provided a data pack to some students through our YUVA society student group.
Q. Will the college be providing any scholarship or fee exemption to the students?
A. We have decided to reduce 20 per cent fees for all the students for the upcoming academic session. The college will also be providing the 100 per cent fees exemption for students who lost one or two parents to the COVID-19. In 2020, the college had also given 20 per cent off on annual fees for all the students.
The annual fees of all the courses are around Rs 10,000. The families are financially and emotionally facing a lot of problems. So, we decided to provide relaxation and submitted the proposal which was approved by the governing body in the recently held meeting.
Q. Does Rajdhani college has any scheme to help financially weak students?
A. We have a lot of students that come from a financially poor background and also those whose parents have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. For those students, the college has started the student aid fund. Through this fund, we will give financial assistance of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 to support them in their education. The college also has a Yuva society, which is a very active student group and is solely working towards helping the students with study materials and other academic needs.
Apart from this, if a student requires any kind of help, they can approach us, and we will try to help them as much as possible. Through different student groups that we have in our college, we get to the students who are in need and try our best to help them.
Q. When can we expect Delhi University First cut-off 2021 to be released? Will it be higher than usual?
A. Delhi University's first cut-off is expected to be released by October 1. With more than 70,000 students scoring more than 95 per cent, we have no choice but to keep the cut-offs on the higher side. Hence, definitely this year, the Delhi University cutoffs 2021 are expected to go higher than usual.
Q. What message do you have for students joining college this academic year?
A. Students should not panic. We are fully prepared to welcome students. They must follow all COVID-19 protocols. They shouldn’t forget that if we are alive we can do so many things but at the risk of life we should not think anything either academics or anything.
