New Delhi, June 24, 2019: Over 290 Young India Fellows of Ashoka University received their postgraduate diplomas at their convocation on Saturday, June 22. The Young India Fellowship (YIF) is a multi-disciplinary programme in liberal studies that transforms motivated students into academic, business and social agents of change.

The chief guest of the ceremony, Dr Arvind Subramanian, leading Economist and the former Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India presented students with their postgraduate diplomas. Chancellor, Professor Rudrangshu Mukherjee and Vice Chancellor, Pratap Bhanu Mehta also addressed the gathering.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arvind Subramanian said, “Three major trends will influence India’s economy. Firstly, due to backlash from globalisation the flow of people between countries will no longer be easy, especially in the US and Western Europe. Secondly, climate change and environmental concerns will lead to a shortage of resources that we have been taking for granted. For India this would mean worsening air pollution, water shortage and the stress on land resources. Finally, human capital will be aggravated by technology under the 4th Industrial Revolution where providing jobs for all will be a huge challenge.”

The Young India Fellowship brings together bright young individuals who demonstrate unprecedented intellectual ability and leadership potential and trains them to become committed social agents of change. The fellowship aims to foster critical thinkers who are intellectually curious, self-aware and impactful through their work. The curriculum is designed to understand team-building, develop critical thinking and gain problem-solving skills by combining academic work with work experience. The courses include Literature, Gender Studies, History, Art Appreciation, Statistics, Mathematical Thinking, Psychology, Management, etc.

YIF scholars have received 100% placement in 2019 at organisations such as McKinsey & Co, Airtel, Deloitte, Michael Page, Genpact, IndusInd Bank, TCS, WNS, Zomato, Swiggy, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Lemon Tree Hotels, NIIT, BYJU’s, IndiaMart, TechnoServe among others. Students have also been placed at non-for-profit firms like Teach for India, PRADAN, IPE Global Limited, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, Sahapedia, etc. Some of the fellows have been offered positions at Ashoka Univeristy as well.
