The difficulty level of the GD and PI depends on the institute as well as the preparation of a candidate, thus, prepare for both GD and PI diligently to get admission in the desired college.
Whether a GD or PI session is difficult or not is one question that comes in the mind of every person for admissions in a college or a job. In this article, we will discuss my experience and opinion about the difficulty level of GD and PI.
The difficultly level of a GD or PI is or not depends on the institution which conducts it. Higher the reputation of the institution, the higher would be the difficultly level of the GD and PI. The reputed institutions, like IIM, the chances are you would be competing with the best students from a particular state or who knows, might be the best students from all over India. This would make the whole process more competitive and difficult.
When students from different backgrounds come together, it makes the session more diverse. There might be students who would even try to get under your skin and there might be quiet students. The focus of each participant should be on the content to be delivered during the session and the way of delivery. Work on boosting confidence and understanding each point clearly.
Sometimes the institution might give a topic in the GD that might not be known to everyone. In such a case, one has to grab whatever information they could get from the discussion and then come up with their viewpoint on the given topic and then present it to the group. This could be a little tricky as quick grasping of the information, comprehending the same organising it in a better way and then presenting it all within the prescribed time limit given by the panellists. Also, keep in mind to follow the professional etiquettes of the GD session.
The only difference in PI is that the interviewer would ask questions about the candidate and from their CV and it would be one-on-one or any situation rather than a group discussion. Again, the difficulty level depends on the institution and the type of panellists. Taking my personal experience, for example, I had attended GD and PI sessions both at Rajagiri Business School and SCMS Business School. I found the GD sessions had the same level of difficulty at both colleges whereas the PI session was a little more challenging at SCMS than Rajagiri.
Some of the other ways to improve GD and PI skills are watching videos on Youtube, prepare accordingly, and then practise it in front of the mirror daily. Ask friends to evaluate the performance and then find out what went wrong each time. Also, if one is attending the coaching classes on CAT, MAT, etc. the same institutions would provide mock GD and PI sessions towards the end of the course.
