How to Strategically Plan 3 Attempts of NMAT?
GMAC provides each applicant with three attempts for NMAT exam in one admission session. Here are some tips and things to remember while scheduling three exam attempts.
NMAT is among the few entrance exams providing multiple attempts within one admission session. Aspirants applying for NMAT can schedule the exam three times within a predefined testing window. GMAC sends the best of three NMAT scores to the participating colleges for MBA admission. Candidates who applied for the NMAT exam can complete the retake registration after the first exam attempt. Candidates have to pay the registration fee for each exam attempt.
With the flexibility of choosing the exam date, and two retakes of the NMAT exam, candidates feel confident in taking the NMAT exam. A wrong exam date can lead to a disaster on the NMAT exam day. Factors to Consider While Scheduling NMAT Attempts
A bad exam date can lead to a disaster in the NMAT scores. Several factors can influence the NMAT exam scheduling process. Strategically planning the NMAT exam date can help candidates enhance their scores for a better chance of MBA admissions. Here are some of the factors that must be considered while scheduling the NMAT exam.
Admission to SPJIMR courses is based on merit or entrance exam scores of the candidates. For PGDM/ PGPM, candidates are required to pass CAT/ GMAT followed by a personal interview round. The selection for Online PGDM is based on a personal interview round. Candidates are required to meet the selection requirements for admission to any of the UG or PG programmes. For FPM, admission is based on the Research Aptitude Test followed by PI. Besides, admission to GMP programme is based on CAT, XAT, GMAT, GRE followed by PI round.
The institute conducts VITEEE for BTech admission, VITMEE for M.Tech admissions and VITREE for PhD admission. The institute accepts national-level entrance exams like CAT, XAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT, ATMA, etc., for MBA course. However, admission to a few other courses, including BSc, BSc (Hons), BCA, BCom, MSc, MCA, among others, is based on the aggregate obtained by the candidates in previous qualifying degree/ exam (merit-based). After passing the entrance exam, aspirants are called further rounds of selection. Shortlisted aspirants need to come for counselling and document verification round.
Preparation Phase
While scheduling the exam, candidates must check the level of their preparation. Incomplete preparation may lead to a low score in NMAT, leading the candidates to waste one attempt. Therefore, candidates must only schedule the NMAT exam when they are confident about their preparation level. Candidates can attempt mock tests to evaluate their performance and then schedule the exam.

Candidates who have already prepared and are confident must schedule the NMAT exam for a date as earliest as possible. However, candidates who cannot get a good score in NMAT mock tests must avoid scheduling. Such candidates must analyse the mock tests to know their strengths and weaknesses.
Scheduling Limitations
GMAC provides as many as three attempts for NMAT aspirants within the testing window. However, there are some limitations to scheduling the NMAT exam. Candidates must keep the following details in mind while planning the three attempts of the NMAT exam:
- Candidates can only register for retake after the exam date for the first attempt.
- Gap between two attempts must be 15 days or more.
- GMAC considers the no-show as an attempt. That is to say, candidates who scheduled the exam but did not appear for the exam on the day will lose their attempt.
- Candidates have to pay the registration fee for each attempt.
- Candidates can book any slot that is at least 24 hours after the slot booking.

NMAT Registration Fee
- Test Registration: INR 3000 + applicable taxes
- Retake: INR 3000 + applicable taxes
- Reschedule: INR 1200 + applicable taxes
Candidates who have scheduled the exam, however, do not plan to appear on that day must reschedule the exam to avoid missing one attempt.
Other MBA Entrance Exams
NMAT by GMAC is typically the MBA season start in India. NMAT registration starts slightly before other top MBA exams, including CAT, XAT, IIFT, SNAP, among others. Therefore, most of the national-level MBA entrance exams have their exam dates in November and December. Candidates aspiring to take other MBA entrance exams must check the exam dates before scheduling the NMAT exam.

NMAT Exam Score & Target Institute
Candidates applying for NMAT must have specific institutes in mind while filling the form. Before the retake registration, candidates must check the cutoff scores of the preferred MBA college accepting NMAT scores. Although the previous yearβs cutoff score does not guarantee admission, candidates can skip the retake if he/she has exceeded the previous yearβs cutoff score significantly.
