MBA entrance exams are common aptitude tests that assess students’ logical, analytical and critical reasoning abilities along with the command over English language and knowledge of current affairs. These exams help MBA institutes in judging the most suitable candidates for their MBA/PGDM programmes. There are about 3,700 management institutes in India. Most of these institutes select candidates on the basis of entrance exam scores.

Most of the top MBA entrance exams such as CAT, XAT, SNAP and CMAT take place in December and January. Exams conducted by private MBA institutes including, TISSNET, IRMASAT, IBSAT and KIITEE MBA are held in December and January. The state-level MBA entrance exams such as MAH-CET, TANCET, TSICET, APICET and Karnataka PGCET are conducted from March to August.

Like in 2020, the schedules of many MBA entrance exams changed in 2021 too and dates were revised due to Coronavirus pandemic and consequent partial lock-down. Many state-level MBA exams such as OJEE, MAH CET, Karnataka PGCET, etc. were conducted in September. In 2022 however, the exams are expected to be held as per schedule.

MBA Entrance Exam Calendar 2022-23

Most of the national-level MBA entrance exams are being held between December and January. MBA aspirants can apply for MBA entrance exams for 2022 admission now as the registration process are ongoing. Registration process for MBA entrance exams to be held in second quarter of 2022 have begun for all top exams. Given below is the MBA entrance exam calendar for 2022-23 session:

MBA Entrance Exams: Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility criteria of all MBA entrance exams is completing graduation with minimum 50 per cent aggregate (45 per cent for Reserved category candidates). However, some exams do not have minimum marks requirement in graduation. Only the passing marks in graduation make candidates eligible for such MBA exams.
Students in the final year of graduation are also eligible to appear in all the MBA entrance exams

Eligibility criteria of the MBA entrance exams may vary. Thus, the candidates must check the eligibility criteria of each exam before applying.

MBA Entrance Exams & Colleges Accepting Score

The top MBA entrance exams scores are accepted by a large number of MBA institutes across India. CAT exam score is valid for admission to the IIMs and other top B-schools, including SPJIMR-Mumbai, MDI-Gurgaon, FMS-Delhi, IMT-Ghaziabad, etc and aboyt 1,200 other colleges. XAT score is accepted by XLRI, Jamshedpur and over 600 other B-schools. On the other hand, state -level MBA entrance exam scores are mostly valid for admission to state-level MBA colleges.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria to appear for an MBA entrance exam?

A: Those who wish to appear for MBA entrance exam must be graduate from recognised university with minimum 50 per cent aggregate. There is five per cent relaxation for the candidates belonging to reserved categories. Some exams do not have a minimum marks criteria. Candidates in the final year of their graduation can also apply.

Q: Which exam scores are accepted by Indian Institute of Management?

A: Indian Institute of Management or the IIMs accept only CAT scores. Foreign/NRI/OIC candidates can apply for MBA programmes of the IIMs through GMAT score. Domestic candidates can apply for Executive MBA programmes through GMAT.

A: CAT 2022 will be conducted on November 27. The application process will start in the first week of August. The CAT application fee for the General and OBC candidates is INR 2,200 and for the SC, ST and PwD candidates the application fee is INR 1,100.

Q: What is the MBA selection process?

A: To pursue an MBA course, candidates have to appear for an MBA entrance exam. Once they clear the exam and meet the cutoff criteria, they will have to appear for further selection rounds, which include Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Written Ability Test.

A: MBA fee in India varies from college to college. Depending on the infrastructure, curriculum, facilities, etc. different colleges have different fee structures. The MBA fee in government colleges is lesser than the private institutes. In India, MBA fee ranges from INR 15,000 to INR 35 lakh roughly.

A: The salary package varies from college to college. Top IIMs such as IIM Kozihkode, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, etc. offer packages as high as INR 38.50 lakh. The average salary package offered at IIFT Delhi in 2019 stood at INR 20.07 lakh. Hence, the salary package offered to you will depend on your performance in the throughout the semesters and performance in the placement interview.

A: CMAT exam is conducted between January and March. The NTA conducts CMAT in 124 cities across India. Some of the top B-schools which accept CMAT are Christ University, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, IMS Ghaziabad, WeSchool, Mumbai, JIMS, NSB Academy, KIIT School of Management, etc.

Q: What is the MBA entrance exam syllabus?

A: Generally, the MBA entrance exams have three sections, i.e. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude and Logical and Analytical Ability. Some exams have other sections such as General Awareness as well.
