PGDM is the best thing to have happened to me: Nihal Rander
I am a Commerce student and the main reason behind me choosing Commerce as my course of study in class 11th and class 12th, was my family. We have a notion in our mind that we need to take Commerce in the 11th standard and after completing our studies as we need to handle our family business. So, that is the reason why I chose this course. Another reason is that I was never able understand Chemistry and Physics, so the only option I had was Commerce. So after class 12th, I got admission in Delhi University and joined BCom there because I had no plans for further studies after my undergraduate education. But when I was in the final year, my family members convinced me to pursue Post Graduate Diploma in Management, and I think that was the best thing ever happened in my life. So, the main reason for choosing these courses is my family and their business requirements.
I appeared for CAT, MAT and NMAT by GMAC in order to get a college, and I got admission in Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB) through my MAT score. I had taken coaching for 6 months from TIME Institute. Yes, I have tried certain colleges like Amity University, Apeejay School of Management and Asia Pacific Institute of Management. Amity and Asia were not for me because they were too far from my home. My cousin did his PGDM from APJ School of Management and said that if you want to pursue your PGDM in Marketing, then search for a different college. So after analyzing these colleges, I joined FIIB.
I spend most of my time in attending classes. We have a 90-minute lecture for each subject and minimum 3-4 classes on a daily basis. It takes me 80-90 minutes to reach my college, so first, I visit our library and read the newspaper for around 15-20 minutes, and then I attend all my classes. If I get any free time, then I have my lunch and sometimes, I play table-tennis. I like to attend classes of Marketing and some classes of Finance because I have got an interest in these fields. In Marketing, I always like to attend consumer behavior, Business to Business marketing, and Sales and Distribution classes. In Finance, I like to attend the Financial Services class. I have participated in the National Marketing Conference as a sponsorship member where we need to get a sponsorship for the event. Then, I have participated in Rangbhoomi, a sports event at FIIB where I was in the cricket team and we were the runner-up team. I have also participated in an Entrepreneurship Quiz where I have received the first position. There were many activities I was a part of during my PGDM. If given a chance, I would have participated in Meraki, a college event where new business ideas are welcomed and if the idea is good enough, people give the funding. So, if given a chance, I will participate in this event.
Before joining FIIB, I was an introvert person as I didn’t talk to people much, and I was very bad with my communication and presentation skills. But after more than a year, FIIB has changed me totally as a person now, and I have better time management skills, I have become hard-working and now, I have improved a lot in my communication and presentation skills too.

Work experience is not imp. for the FIIB PGDM program. Newly graduated students can apply for the programme. However, students with 1–3 years of working experience can receive additional weightage, which consequently improves their chances of the PGDM selection process.

FIIB uses an AU video process for the interview, which helps to evaluate and understand the students' communication skills, critical thinking, confidence, etc. Once students complete their interview, the faculty reviews the answers and shortlist them for the upcoming processes.
