SNAP 2016 was conducted on December 18, 2016 and with the changed exam pattern, the candidates found it a bit tricky to tackle the question paper. Out of all the sections, the General Awareness section turned out to be the surprise element of the exam.

Here’s a brief analysis of SNAP 2016 test by MBA expert Rahul Singh, CATKing

SNAP 2016 had given a new twist to the exam pattern which saw a drastic change in the weightage assigned to the Logical Reasoning and the General Awareness Sections.

SNAP tested students on Speed, Logic and Analytical Skills. Though the number of marks allocated changed, the questions were on the same lines as last 2 -3 years. Preparing from the previous papers would surely have helped the candidates.

General Awareness:

The surprise element in the exam was General Awareness shifting completely from a static GK dominated questions to Current Affairs based questions. The good part was that it was completely based on Current Affairs and the students, who had done the major headings as discussed in class and in the webinars, were able to easily do 15-20 Questions.

Mergers and Acquisitions has become the most favourite topic in all exams.

Logical Reasoning:

Logical Reasoning saw a well distributed set of questions; from seating arrangement, number puzzles, series, visual reasoning and analytical reasoning. Students with strong analytical base found LR section easy. Also the marking scheme saw a major twist in 1 mark for Logical Reasoning as compared to 2 marks per correct answer over the years. However, this would not affect the overall criteria for a student selection in Symbiosis colleges.

Verbal Ability:

Verbal Ability, as expected, was not like CAT dominated by Reading Comprehension. SNAP 2016had only two very straightforward passages. Vocab based questions like synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases were from the Norman Lewis; one book I always recommend to all MBA Aspirants. Parajumbles were tricky for those who hadn’t practiced. Grammar was basic. The unique questions were GRE like multiple Fill in the Blanks questions.

Quantitative Ability:

QA was arithmetic dominated paper, like always, and had two Data Interpretation sets. A couple of questions on logarithms, algebraic identities and numbers may have surprised students who skipped these for the CAT.

Negative marking existed for Multiple Choice Questions; 1/4th ie: 0.25 negative marks.

The exam was not very difficult, was manageable provided your concepts were clear. General Awareness was repeatedly done from a managerial perspective. 150 questions 120 minutes definitely tests you on that more than the NMAT now; General Awareness is what makes the other sections doable.

“Got a question about top MBA exams? Ask students who have already made it to top B-Schools.”

A good attempt would be 110-115 Questions.

All the Best for the result!
